Ross' Friday Blogcast: Democrats' Discord, Harley Hogs, and Flying Fish

Today's Guests

Congressman Doug Lamborn (R-CO5) and I will share a little happy dance, even if it's just temporary, about what happened (or didn't happen) in the House of Representatives yesterday. (See "The Big Story" below.) We'll also talk about Doug's opportunity earlier this week to question senior US military leaders about the Afghanistan debacle. (More of that in a TV interview here: Lamborn on 9-29-21 HASC Hearing on Afghanistan- Newsmax TV - YouTube)

Bill Jackson, Archives Manager for the Harley-Davidson Museum, joins the show to answer a listener question: "Why are Harley-Davidson motorcycles called 'hogs'?"

Matt Beienburg,Dir of Education Policy for the Goldwater Institute, tells us about a fantastic law that his group just helped get passed in Wisconsin, and that he (and I) think should be a model piece of legislation everywhere: Putting Power in Parents’ Hands: Wisconsin Legislature Passes Law to Stop Politics in K-12 – In Defense of Liberty

A perennial show favorite, CU Physics Professor Paul Beale, joins us to answer many of our Thursday "I've been Wondering" questions!

Dr Oswaldo Grenardo, MD, SVP and chief diversity and inclusion officer at Centura Health, updates us on the inaugural $1MM Health Equity and Advancement Fund being rolled out to help non-profit organizations around Colorado. The Big Story

Although Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, whom my friend Mandy Connell calls "the Claw" failed on Thursday to corral enough Democratic votes to pass the "bipartisan" $1.2 trillion "infrastructure" bill, she'll keep trying today while the president and others try to pressure senators Sinema and Manchin to go along with an ADDITIONAL couple of trillion dollars of insanely wasteful spending. I still think Dems will pass something because they will be utterly crushed in 2022 and probably 2024 elections if they don't, but it's not going to be easy because the radical "progressive" wing of the party is not interested in compromise and Joe Manchin doesn't seem to have any interest in getting anywhere near what they want.
