Ross' Tues Blogcast: Should women register for the draft? Our misery index.

The Big Stories

First, the most important Colorado news of the day, month, and year: https://www.denverpost.com/2021/09/27/south-park-creators-purchase-casa-bonita/

It's interesting to see conservative Republicans make the argument they're making here. I'm not with them; I think women should have to register, and I'll talk about why on the show. I'd love to get your take by phone or you can email me at ross(at)koanewsradio(dot)com. Freedom Caucus urges opposition to defense bill over 'draft our daughters' provision | TheHill

I don’t want to sound negative, but if we were thinking about a misery index like the Jimmy Carter years, we’d certainly be creeping up that index right now. Oil prices rising sharply (though gasoline prices in the US haven't yet moved up with them in recent days.) Worldwide energy problems. Major spike in violent crime during COVID, including here in Colorado. Here are some links for you:

Lightening It Up

What is something that is worse now than 20 or 30 or 40 years ago...and, so we’re not just being negative nellies, what’s something that’s better now? (Send me your answers at the email address in the "The Big Stories" section.

Why We Can't Have Fun Anymore

The word "problematic" is very problematic for me, but you’ll just shake your head when you hear what word one of the most famous science magazines just said is problematic. Guessing the force is not with them. Before I share this with you, let me say that I suspect this may be the latest in a small but ongoing trend of people trying to get ridiculous things published in nominally serious magazines to show how the magazines have lost their way in a fever dream of wokeness:

Why the Term 'JEDI' Is Problematic for Describing Programs That Promote Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion - Scientific American

And I thought this was only a little dumb at first, but then I read the next part: (about being alone during sex.)

Woke writer attacks the word 'virginity,' suggests 'sexual debut' (nypost.com)

Is He Really This Stupid?

I don't think you need me to explain to you what's so terribly wrong with this claim by our president. But I will definitely talk about it on the show:

(17) President Biden on Twitter: "My Build Back Better Agenda costs zero dollars. Instead of wasting money on tax breaks, loopholes, and tax evasion for big corporations and the wealthy, we can make a once-in-a-generation investment in working America. And it adds zero dollars to the national debt." / Twitter

Speaking of Biden, as his presidency is on the verge of collapsing around him, he embarks on this ridiculous political theater that isn't fooling anyone (regarding its purpose of trying to distract Americans from his failure and incompetence.) In a way, all this does is remind the country that they elected a very old man as president. Sooooo dumb.
