Mandy's Fri Blog: We're Talking Movies and REALLY Big Questions!

(Image: Getty Images)

WE'VE GOT MIKE ROSEN AT THE MOVIES AT 2 And I watched one of the movies that we are going to review. Elvis Meets Nixon is based on a true story, Dave loved it, me not so much. The other movie is Jingle Jangle, which I haven't seen yet. We're also talking favorite Christmas movies as well.

TODAY'S REALLY BIG QUESTION FROM THE BIG BOOK OF QUESTIONS Is a good one about when you die. We'll dig in at 1.

WANT TO KNOW HOW DENVER BECAME A THRIVING CITY? IT's all about water and the Moffat tunnel is what brought water to the Front Range back in 1930s. This is a cool story about the Moffat tunnel. Watch the video embedded in the story, it's super cool.

DENVER PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD IS FORCED TO DO WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE EARLIER They voted to approve the charter for the new DSST Noel High School to open Summer of 2021. They had to approve it after DSST appealed the earlier denial to the State Board of Education, who essentially told Denver to approve or they would. Noel Middle School is the highest performing middle school in Denver, and it's chock full of minority students, many of whom live in poverty. This is the right thing to do and I'm glad the BOE intervened.

AOC ISN'T VERY POPULAR WITH HER FELLOW DEMS And that's seen in the results of a secret ballot vote for an important committee appointment. She lost 46-13 which is pretty much an ass kicking and really the only reason I'm putting this story on the blog. Petty? Yes. Worth it? Also yes.

AND NOW, COWS PLAYING JINGLE BELLS

THE GIANT REVOLT AGAINST COVID RESTRICTIONS IS ON LIKE DONKEY KONG And I'm not going to lie, this excites me. Not because I want anyone to get covid, but because I had lost faith in Americans and their collective will to fight tyranny that is not based on science. Reason has more here. Colorado has it's own website of businesses that are planning to buck the government overreach and remain open.

ONE MICHIGAN BOWLING ALLEY OWNER WRITES AND OBIT FOR HIS BUSINESS And it got some attention. This is just one of the thousands of small business owners facing the same thing. See the above article for more.

DEAF PEOPLE ARE MAD AN ACTOR WHO CAN HEAR IS HIRED And I can't tell you how tired I am of all this. I get it that deaf actors have an increased struggle in an already demanding industry. But the notion that only someone who checks all the same characteristic boxes of the characters they want to play can play them is insane. And would have prevented the black cast of Hamilton from being anything at all.

I JUST LIVED THIS WALLET EXPERIMENT IN REAL LIFE CBS News did an experiment where they "lost" a wallet and gave strangers a chance to give it back or keep it. The news was good, more returned it than didn't. I JUST went through this in Costco last week. I'll share my idiotic story today.

TOM CRUISE'S RANT ON THE SET HAS BEEN MADE BETTER BY THE INTERNET Tom Cruise lost his mind when two crew members were standing next to each other rather than six feet apart. Someone made it better.

I READ DR. JILL BIDEN'S DISSERTATION AND I'M DROPPING THE DOCTOR BIT I defended Jill Biden's use of Doctor before her name because she has a Doctorate in Education and that's an ACCOMPLISHMENT, right? Except now I've read her dissertation and it's not worthy of an honorific. Full stop. National Review read it too and has absolutely savaged it, and it is well-deserved.

SCHOOL CHOICE IS GOOD FOR STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH And though correlation does NOT mean causation, it's worth looking at. A recent study compared student suicide rates in areas that had enacted school choice reforms and found a 10% DECREASE in student suicides. Why might there be a connection? School choice allows parents to move kids out of schools that may not work for them, and charter and private schools enforce discipline better than public. Maybe school choice advocates like me should embrace the 'IF IT COULD SAVE ONE LIFE..." mantra.

THE NEW YORK TIMES FINALLY APOLOGIZES FOR REWRITING HISTORY Oh, not the 1619 Project, they still think that's great. It's ANOTHER thing they did about Islamic terror back in 2018, the podcast Caliphate. Seems the guy who lead the project lied about everything in it. Read more here.

IF YOU'VE BEEN A BIT LAZY DURING THIS PANDEMIC, THIS LITTLE GIRL HAS GOT SOMETHING FOR YA

THE HOLDERNESS FAMILY TAKES ON CAROLS AND KARENS My daughter LOVES this family on Youtube. I admit I do too. This is just a taste of what they do.

THE DIE HARD CHRISTMAS SONG FROM DOLLY Technically this ISN'T a Christmas song, but it's a Christmas song if you don't watch the movie.

THIS VERSION OF CAROL OF THE BELLS IS OUTSTANDING AND HAS NO BELLS

Send me your favorite carols or Christmas songs for next week! mandy@koanewsradio.com

NEED TO GET SOME AGGRESSION OUT? HOW ABOUT THROWING SOME AXES? This is a great article about axe throwing bars. We have some of these in the metro but I'm sure of their current status. find them here. I've tried to throw axes and I'm not that good but it sure it fun. Johnny Carson did it.

Here is Ed explaining the gag
