Mandy's Wed Blog: Andrew Carnegie and Possibly the Leader of the Revolution

WE'VE FINALLY GOT JAMES WHITAKER ON ABOUT ANDREW CARNEGIE If you don't know who Andrew Carnegie is, he was the Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos of his time. But he started out in poverty working at 13 and became the world's richest man and that had an effect on him. Napoleon Hill was a young reporter when he went to interview Andrew Carnegie and Carnegie laid out for Hill his path to success and shared his secrets so that Napoleon Hill could share them with the world and he did with his massive best seller Think and Grow Rich in the 1930s. James Whitaker took the initial conversation between the two men and added some context to bring it into the 21st century and it's a great book called Andrew Carnegie's Mental Dynamite: How to Unlock the Awesome Power of You. Buy it by clicking here and he joins me at 1.

SPEAKING OF ANDREW CARNEGIE AND SUPER WEALTH I was doing a little background study and found this article about Andrew Carnegie's views on wealth, capitalism, income inequality and more and it's very interesting. How does this differ from the ultra rich today? Now I'm going to have to read a bunch more of Andrew Carnegie's philosophy. You can read the original essay by Carnegie here and I suggest you do. It will make you smarter. There is one line that I agree with so much I wanted to share it. It made me think of Step Denver:

In bestowing charity, the main consideration should be to help those who will help themselves; to provide part of the means by which those who desire to improve may do so; to give those who desire to use the aids by which they may rise; to assist, but rarely or never to do all.

THIS ANGRY BUSINESS OWNER MAY BE READY TO LEAD THE REVOLUTION IN DENVER Former Rockie pitcher Jason Hirsch owns an elite training facility in Denver. He's very, very unhappy about the Mayor's actions and is looking for other business owners to work with. He's on a 2 to discuss, find his training team here.

TAY ANDERSON IS AN INCOMPETENT MEMBER OF THE DENVER SCHOOL BOARD And if you don't follow his ridiculous antics, most of which have NOTHING to do with his ACTUAL job as a School Board member, it's truly shameful. He has inserted himself into whatever event has a camera, ignores public comments during school board meetings and says all cops are corrupt. Here is a quick documentation of his greatest hits. Surely Denver can do better than this fame-whore? Apparently he has time to dance around chanting in DC while minority students in Denver continue to lag far, far behind in one of the biggest achievement gaps in the country.

SAFER AT HOME MAY BE PERMANENT FOR RESTAURANT OWNERS After yesterday's Safer at Home order by Mayor Michael Hancock many restaurants are effectively in a death spiral. Now that the weather is going to prevent them from having outdoor tables they will be limited to 25% capacity inside and no one can survive on that. I meant it when I said if you have a favorite restaurant in the Denver area, you better visit it soon. They may not last. And I say this as someone whose favorite restaurant ALREADY closed. There is a great story in the Denver Gazette, sign up for a free three month trial to read it. From the story:

Sonia Riggs, the CEO of the Colorado Restaurant Association, said business owners have stated they need at least 75% capacity to survive.
"Even at 50% capacity, half of restaurants told us they will have to consider permanently closing within six months. Restaurants have told us that they need to get about 75% capacity to have a chance at medium term survival," Riggs said in an email statement to The Denver Gazette.

The irony of all this is that people are STILL going to gather, they are just going to do it at someone's house now. This is super dumb. Just dumb.

TRUMP IS AHEAD OF WHERE HE WAS IN 2016 IN LATEST POLLING And this is very, very bad news for Biden, as he's literally hiding in his basement in the last few days leading up to the election. Dems may have erred in thinking they would just hide the very mentally challenged Biden and let Trump implode, but Trump's debate performance and massive rallies seem to having some effect. And don't put any stock in early turnout numbers which seem to favor Dems, they don't matter and never have. Check the data here, but it looks good for Trump. I sure hope someone in the media will ask Dems if they are committed to a peaceful acceptance of results should he win again.

Y'ALL, THE TONY BOBULINSKI INTERVIEW ON TUCKER CARLSON IS A MUST WATCH. And you can watch part of it here.

You need to go watch the rest of it on Fox News because I can't embed it. Go here now. WOW. One more snippet via Tucker's Twitter account.

MOST AMERICANS ARE WEARING MASKS And if this story doesn't make you at least ask if masks actually work, I can't help you. We're all wearing them and we've been wearing them since spring. Stop telling us this is our fault. From the article:

The survey asked about six risk-mitigation behaviors: mask-wearing, hand-washing, keeping six feet away from others, canceling social activities, avoiding crowds and avoiding restaurants.
In general, the older respondents were, the more of those measures they took. But as early as April, 70 percent of all those aged 18 to 29 reported wearing masks, while 84 percent of those older than 60 did.
By June, 86 percent of young Americans said they were wearing them while 92 percent of the seniors said they were.

And cases are going up. Masks. Don't. Work.

HEY EVERYBODY, WANT TO SEE WHAT LIFE IS LIKE IN STOCKHOLM TODAY?

WHO IS BACK AT THE OFFICE? Our office is expected to be a ghost town until at least January. But we are not alone. Workers are coming back, but most of us are still working from home. Will we ever come back? No one knows for sure.

ANOTHER STORY ABOUT HOW LOCKDOWNS DON'T WORK, BUT WHATEVER This one from Melbourne Australia, which has the benefit of closed borders (that are made of ocean), a government people trust and a small infection rate, they still locked down for THREE MONTHS. They essentially told everyone to stay in their homes. I am going to watch carefully over the next 12 months to see if this strategy is simply extending the virus in Melbourne rather than killing it. THE VIRUS IS GONNA DO WHAT THE VIRUS IS GONNA DO.

NOW THE COPS WILL BUST UP YOUR CHRISTMAS IF YOU VIOLATE COVID RULES Is this going to be enough for the people of the UK to go into open revolt? It would be for me. Cops say if you violate the rules on CHRISTMAS by having too many people in your house, they will come in and bust up the party. This makes me want to throw a rager just because. But it's not happening here. Yet. I feel like this will embolden Gavin Newsome somehow.

LAST NIGHT THE RAYS PROVED THAT YOU CAN ONLY RELY ON DATA SO MUCH As manager Kevin Cash pulled hot pitcher out of Game 6 of the World Series both Chuck and I SCREAMED at the television. WHY??? When the next pitchers got lit up and the Dodgers won, it was impossible not to blame the worst decision of all time for the loss. But the Rays have a policy that says their pitchers shouldn't face a batter for a third time so they pulled him. SO MUCH STUPID IN THIS. I'm so, so mad.

THE BRAWNY PAPER TOWEL DUDE WHO PLAYS FOR THE DODGERS DOESN'T CARE THAT HE HAS THE RONA Because after finding out he was positive for Coronavirus, he came out on the field to celebrate the Dodgers win (DAMN IT) in the World Series. He's a lone superspreader.

WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO HAVE DISHWASHERS THAT WORK AGAIN! We bought a new dishwasher five years ago when we redid our kitchen. I researched to find the one that worked the best on cleaning dishes and got one of the most highly rated ones available. It works pretty good, but the wash cycle takes FIVE HOURS. I kid you not. FIVE HOURS. Now I may be able to replace it with a dishwasher that works in a normal span of time. Thanks to a think tank that made a stink.

HOW THE ACTUAL FLYING YOU-KNOW-WHAT IS SHUTTING DOWN DENVER TRUMP'S FAULT? And yet, Mayor Hancock actually said that in his press conference shutting down Denver again. THIS IS INSANE, Y'ALL???

MAYBE THIS DONKEY WAS A VAIN SINGER IN A PAST LIFE? Because this donkey has a song it in it's heart.

AND SOME FUN WITH AFRICAN GREY PARROTS Because these birds are super smart. But please don't get one if you don't have time to interact with them daily, they need lots of stimulation.

IF YOU ARE READY TO WORK ON YOUR CORONAVIRUS WEIGHT This made me cry this morning and it's very inspirational.
