WHAT A WEEK TO TAKE SOME TIME OFF, HUH? And thanks to all of you who sent "wow I wish you were on the air right now" emails because of the crazy events of last week. In all honesty I'm grateful I didn't have to react last week. It gave me time to listen and read and digest so I can bring you clear thoughts and ideas this week. And I've got some. You're going to want to listen to the first segment today.
WE'RE GOING TO TALK SOME ABOUT HOW TO MAKE THIS COUNT And by that, I mean the protests and the death of George Floyd. I am not going to comment on the scumbags who have been using this situation to steal new tv's and whatever else they can get their hands on, or to burn down businesses of people who did no one any harm. They are scumbags who don't deserve my air time. I do want to talk about my own internal conversation about race and how I am examining my own inner dialogue. I'm doing this simply to let you know where I'm coming from and urge people to do their own navel gazing on this issue. I feel like this time is different. I shall explain.
NOT ALL BANKS TOTALLY SCREWED UP THE PPP And I'm looking at you Wells Fargo when I talk about banks screwing things up royally. I've got Collynn Florendo from Bank of Colorado on to discuss how his branch and his bank are helping small business owners get through this mess at 1pm.
DEAR MINNEAPOLIS, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HOW THIS TURNS OUT And I mean that sincerely. I say that in response to the Minneapolis City Council voting in a veto-proof majority to defund and disband the Minneapolis Police Department and ...let me get the exact verbage..."start fresh with a community oriented, non-violent, public safety and outreach capacity.” I can't wait to see what happens. I can't wait to see what Minneapolis comes up with. I can't wait to see if crime rates skyrocket. I can't wait to see who they report crime to. I can't wait to see this progressive utopia in action. Here is a column about it. For me, I simply would not live in a city that decided the police were not necessary. But now we can all see how it works for ourselves, thanks to Minneapolis!
ROGER GOODELL ISSUES A MEA CULPA And he says it was wrong that the league didn't listen to players when they tried to talk about race. He issued a video statement. I think this is a good thing, even though it will be viewed as weakness by some still angry about Kaepernick kneeling for the anthem. Watch it here.
YOUR BODY, YOUR CHOICE UNLESS IT'S VACCINES WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A controversial change to the way vaccines are mandated in the state moved out of committee on Sunday. Lots of people protested it yesterday, including Bobby Kennedy, Jr. The new bill says parents have to watch an educational video about vaccines and complete an educational training module in order to opt their children out of vaccines for a non-medical reason. People are very upset, but from where I'm sitting, it's just more paperwork for people who don't want to vaccinate their kids. This does not mandate vaccines for every child attending school. Read the bill here.
BLACK MAN SHELBY STEELE ISN'T DOWN WITH THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT and he was on with Brett Baier to talk about this version of the Civil Rights Movement. Watch it.
I don't disagree with his statement that "we've seen this all before" but I am more hopeful that this is a real turning point in America. It has been for me.
THERE ARE SOME CONCRETE THINGS BEING ASKED FOR AND THEY AREN'T ALL BAD Although some of them are more complicated than they first seem. Find the 8 Can't Wait policing reforms by clicking here. De escalation training, comprehensive reporting and a use of force continuum are pretty simple. Some of the others are more dicey. I'm loathe, as a lay person, to try to put rules onto police officers who literally face death every day without fully understanding how those rules may put them in harm's way, but we obviously need to be better when it comes to tactics like chokeholds and shooting into cars. But if I'm a cop and someone is driving at me trying to run me over, I want to be able to try and stop them. This isn't as simple as you might think. I do however support Justin Amash when he tweeted out this:
I can get behind a vast majority of these reforms very easily.
JAMES BENNET RESIGNS BECAUSE THE NEW YORK TIMES EDITORIAL PAGE EDITOR BECAUSE SNOWFLAKES GOT MAD When a United State Senator submits an Op-Ed to a major paper, it's not crazy to think they would print it. And yet, when Tom Cotton's Op-ed suggesting that the President needed to send out the military to stop looters and rioters all hell broke loose. The fascistic alleged journalists at the Times revolted against the Op-ed and threatened to resign in protest. The Times should have let them, instead, Bennet resigned. And with this, the times fades further into the dustbin of history.
AND NOW A SILLY MAN AND SOME EGGS
FORREST FENN'S TREASURE HAS BEEN FOUND IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS!! The New Mexico art dealer has confirmed that the treasure he hid over a decade ago has been found by a guy who wants to remain anonymous. Four people have died looking for the treasure. Now it's been found.
MAYBE THIS TIME WILL BE DIFFERENT And I sure hope it is. John Oliver points out that other protests have not had much effect.
THIS MAN IS EVERYONE'S DAD This man was raised without a dad and he's now created a YouTube Channel to teach other kids how to do stuff a dad normally would. It's amazing. Here is how to tie a tie.
SWEDEN DIDN'T LOCK DOWN BUT THE ECONOMY IS IN THE DUMPS ANYWAY And though health officials say they were worried about public health and not the economy, the economy took a big hit.
WHEN ELMER FUDD GOES TO KILL DE WABBIT IT MIGHT BE WITH HIS BARE HANDS As the new Looney Tunes cartoons will not allow Elmer, the HUNTER, to carry a gun. This is just...stupid. Just retire the character already.
