Colorado Governor Jared Polis wears a cloth face mask at one point during his press conference on Friday, April 3, 2020.
Friday, Gov. Jared Polis asked the people of Colorado to do something else in the fight against COVID-19.
"We're asking all Coloradoans to wear a non-medical, cloth face mask when they go out of the house for necessary activities, such as grocery shopping or walking around your neighborhood."
"A cloth face mask or scarf should be part of everyone's personal hygiene practices and distancing practices. Having that as part of our culture is a really important part in reducing the spread of the virus to save lives and return to a functional economy where people can go to work sooner rather than later."
The Governor did not present or talk about any specific data or scientific research on the effectiveness of cloth or non-medical face masks protecting against COVID-19 or reducing its spread.
In his remarks, the Governor also expressed his condolences to the family of El Paso County Sheriff's deputy Jeff Hopkins, who died from COVID-19, talked about relief for businesses and workers and also discussed testing capactiy.
