Aurora is telling restaurants that they can't serve sugary drinks in a kid's meal without a parent's permission. The city passed an ordinance last night that will force restaurants to remove sodas and other sweetened drinks from being advertised as part of a kid's meal. A parent may request such a drink for their children, but water or another non-sugared drink will be the default beverage included on the menu. The ordinance passed 6-3 and will face a second vote in two weeks.
