Denver D.A. Dumps Assistant Amid Bullying Allegations

In a statement Monday morning, Denver District Attorney Beth McCann announced that her second-in-command, Assistant D.A. Ryan Brackley will resign following accusations he bullied fellow employees.

Earlier this month, an independent investigator found evidence supporting an allegation that Brackley used a baseball bat to threaten a co-worker. Additionally, That investigator verified a number of other bullying claims against the assistant prosecutor. McCann initially said Brackley would stay with the office in a different capacity. Now Denver's D.A. says restructuring Brackley's duties doesn't make sense.

"This decision was very difficult,” said McCann. “Ryan brought great value to the office in many ways, and he accomplished important and significant work for us and the city of Denver. I admire his passion, hard work, commitment to the office and considerable trial skills. I thank Ryan for his heartfelt and outstanding contributions to me, my administration, this office and to the city as a whole.”

Helen Morgan, Chief Deputy of the Behavioral Health Unit will assume the responsibilities of the Assistant District Attorney on an interim basis beginning this week.
