Colorado Governor Jared Polis said he understands that some Colorado counties want local control when it comes to enforcing the extreme risk protection order law, or red flag bill. It allows a police officer or private citizen to ask a judge to rule that a weapon should be taken away from someone if they are deemed a risk to themselves or others. Several Colorado counties have declared themselves sanctuary counties and said they will not enforce the law. Polis said he understands there are different governing philosophies in different parts of the state on issues such as immigration and gun control and he embraces that local control.
