New Internet Sales Tax Causes Big Headaches for Small Businesses

Small businesses are struggling with a new internet sales tax law in Colorado. Businesses now have to charge internet sales tax based on where the customer, and not the business is located. Julie Shoenbauer with the Rocky Mountain Region Promotional Products Association said some businesses owners have actually had to close down over the new law. The new rules are designed to level the playing field with bigger retailers like Amazon and Wayfair. The State legislature passed a law setting up a system to help businesses collect these taxes, but Shoenbauer said that won't be ready until at least October. The new law went into effect on June 1st.
