Triple Homicide Suspect Arrested in Denver

Bustamon Kartabrata

Three members of a family have been murdered in southwest Denver's Bear Valley neighborhood. Denver Police Division Chief Joe Montoya says 59-year-old Bustaman Kartabrata is under arrest for the murders of a mother, father and daughter. They were found shot last night at a home in the 3000 block of South Golden Way. The home had just been sold and today was moving day. Police say the man knew the family--and might even be related to them. One child got away from the shooting scene and another adult was injured, but not by gunfire.

DPS Superintendent Susan Cordova released the following statement, in the wake of the murders:

Dear DPS Community:

I am sad to share that we have learned about the loss of three members of the Traylor Academy and Denver Public Schools family. Our entire school district is saddened by this news. We send our condolences to the family and friends of those who passed away. We have been communicating with them to provide support and assistance and will continue to do so.

When our school community experiences a tragedy like this, it impacts all of us. Children may come home with questions and concerns. This resource might be helpful. We will continue to provide counseling support to our students and educators. We want the entire Denver Public Schools community to know that, if you, your child or family needs assistance, please let us know. We are here to help you. Family and Community Helpline staff are available to address concerns at 720-423-3054 or FACE@dpsk12.org

This is heartbreaking, and my thoughts go out to everyone touched by this tragedy, including the family. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts. We will do everything that we can to support them and the entire Traylor community as we work through the pain and emotions of this loss.

Warm regards,

Susana
