Bill On Reducing Penalties For Drug Possession Moves On

A bill to reduce simple drug possession crimes from felonies to misdemeanors is moving forward in the Colorado state House. It was approved in the chamber's Judiciary Committee late yesterday and now moves on to the House Finance Committee. Sponsors say it would shift the focus to treatment and prevention instead of punishment and incarceration. The measure would affect schedule one and schedule two drugs. It would not make changes to drug distribution offenses.
