Suspect Arraignment for Murder of Adams County Deputy

An arraignment on Monday for the man accused of killing Adams County Deputy Heath Gumm. Dreion Dearing is facing several charges including first-degree murder of a peace officer.

Deputy Gumm, 32, was fatally shot January 24, 2018 while responding to a 911 disturbance call in the 8700 block of Dawson Street in Adams County.

Dearing, 31, is charged with first-degree murder of a peace officer after deliberation (F1), first-degree felony murder of a peace officer (F1), first-degree murder after deliberation (F1) , first-degree felony murder (F1), first-degree burglary (F3), possession of a weapon by a previous offender (F5) and third-degree assault (M1).

Adams County District Judge Mark Warner entered not guilty pleas on Dearing’s behalf as to all the charges.

Jury selection for the trial is set to begin September 3. Dearing’s next court appearance is April 12.
