Senator Bennet Votes to Reject the President's Emergency Declaration

The Senate has joined the house in passing a resolution that rejects the President's emergency declaration to fund a border wall. Democratic Senator Michael Bennet voted for the resolution. On the Senate floor he said the declaration is not the same as what previous Presidents have done. Bennet said the President is stealing money from funds that had already been appropriated by lawmakers for other purposes. Republican Senator Cory Gardner voted against the Resolution. He said the president has the legal authority to declare an emergency under a 1976 law that has been invoked 56 times by every previous President since Jimmy Carter.
