Avalanche Mitigation work Closes I-70 West of Denver

Crews with the Colorado Department of Transportation doing avalanche mitigation work brought down a huge slide on the east side of the Eisenhower/Johnson tunnel. It forced C-DOT to close the highway for hours. The avalanche came down about 3 miles East of the tunnel in the Herman Gulch area. 15 inches of snow covered the Westbound lanes and eight inches of snow covered the Eastbound lanes. C-DOT says there is dirt and debris in the slide. No cars were caught and no one is hurt. Some areas have received more than two feet of snow in the last few days.
