State Lawmaker Questioned Over Floor Remarks

A Colorado lawmaker is being questioned about her claims that whites and blacks were lynched in nearly equal numbers following the Civil War.  State Representative Lori Saine of Weld County took to the floor of the House Friday and claimed that whites were lynched in that era for the crime of being Republican.  Saine was apparently defending another Republican lawmaker who was told she could not introduce a resolution honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. because she is white.  Saine has defended herself against backlash on social media, saying the best data available shows that more whites were lynched than blacks in the decade after Reconstruction.
