Preparations for Denver New Year's Eve Fireworks

VISIT DENVER fireworks preparations

Ring in the New Year with the 17th Annual Fireworks in Downtown Denver

The 17th annual Downtown Denver New Year’s Eve Fireworks, presented by the Downtown Denver Partnership and co-sponsored by VISIT DENVER and the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District, will take place on December 31, 2018, with two identical shows at 9 p.m. and midnight. The fireworks wil be launched simultaneously from two roof tops – the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel and another undisclosed location. Eight live DJs will span the 16th Street Mall and synchronize the music to the fireworks display. Each show will run approximately eight minutes and can be seen from anywhere along the Mall. DJs will play tunes from 8 p.m. to just after midnight.

The 9 p.m. show is perfect for families and those who want to celebrate downtown and still make it home for the midnight countdown. The midnight show caters to the night owls enjoying New Year’s festivities at downtown restaurants and nightlife establishments. This year’s production features pyrotechnic special effects such as: red hearts, color-changing crossettes, smiley faces and more. All 6,500 aerial effects are fired using an advanced digital firing system allowing firing accuracy within 1/1000th of a second. This allows for perfect synchronization with the music. The always big and bright shows end with a traditional 50-second grand finale to ring in the new year and create a citywide celebration not to be missed.

“With two incredible displays, the Downtown Denver New Year’s Eve Fireworks provide the perfect atmosphere for all ages to ring in 2019. Whether this is a family tradition or a first-time experience, the crowd will be wowed,” said Sharon Alton, vice president of downtown experience for the Downtown Denver Partnership. “We encourage everyone to make a night of it by coming downtown with family and friends to shop, dine, skate at the Downtown Denver Rink, and stay overnight at one of the amazing hotels.”

Forecast temperatures indicate a chilly New Year’s Eve in Denver with a very slight chance of precipitation. Only high winds, which are not currently forecast, can impact the ability to launch the fireworks as scheduled.
