Denver City Council Votes down 29 Budget Amendments

Denver City Councilmember Candi CdeBaca proposed 29 budget amendments to Mayor Michael Hancock's 2023 budget proposal, but none were passed by the Denver City Council.

Most of the amendments proposed moving money from the Denver Police Department's $257 million dollar budget into services for people experiencing homelessness.

The proposed amendments would have created a facility to treat mental health and substance abuse, two new public mobile restrooms, and installed and repaired public water fountains.

While CdeBaca received support on some of the proposed changes Councilmember Kevin Flynn said, "even if any of them were to pass there's no obligation on the part of the administration to implement them."

The council can submit amendments to the budget until Nov. 7.
