The Colorado Avalanche's Cup runneth over.

The Avs defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning, 2-1, in game six of the Stanley Cup Final on Sunday night at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

Colorado wins the series four games to two and captures its first title since 2001.

The Avs fell behind on Steven Stamkos' goal at 3:48 of the first period.

The Avs would strike twice in the second period.

First, Nathan MacKinnon squeezed the puck past Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy at 1:54. Then Arturri Lehkonen cleaned up a rebound for what turned out to be the game-winning goal with 7:32 left in the game.

Down the stretch, the Avs were solid on defense and goalie Darcy Kuemper came up with some key saves to preserve the lead.

The Avs finish the playoffs with a 16-4 record, 9-1 on the road.

An Avalanche victory rally and parade will start at 9 a.m. MDT on Thursday, June 30.
