DU Defeats Minnesota Duluth, 2-1, To Advance To Frozen Four

The Denver Pioneers are back in the Frozen Four.

Saturday, DU punched its ticket with a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs in the West Regional final at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first on Darian Gotz's goal at 14:41.

But the Pioneers answered when Cole Guttman, the West Regional Most Outstanding Player, put the puck home with 2:19 left in the period.

After a scoreless second period. DU forward Carter Savoie scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal at 13:45 of the third period and the Pioneers hung on to secure a spot in the Frozen Four at TD Garden in Boston.

Denver will play for the school's ninth national championship in men's hockey. The national semifinals are on Thursday, April 7 with the title game on Saturday, April 9.
