The Colorado Avalanche are looking for every last player as the club gears up for a Stanley Cup run.

Monday, the Avs acquired a pair of forwards as they look to make a push in the playoffs.

Colorado picked up forward Antturi Lehkonen from the Montreal Canadiens and forward Andrew Cogliano from the San Jose Sharks.

For Lehkonen, the Avalanche gives up defenseman Justin Barron and a second round draft pick in 2024.

Lehkonen has 29 points in 58 games for Montreal this season. He has scored 13 goals and has added 16 assists.

He was the Canadiens' second round selection in the 2013 draft and has been with Montreal his entire six-year NHL career.

Lehkonen scored the game-winning overtime goal in a 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in game six of the Stanley Cup semifinals last season. That goal sent Montreal to the Stanley Cup finals.

The Avs drafted Barron in the first round (25th overall) in 2020 and he has been with the Avs AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles. In 43 games with the Eagles, Barron has five goals and 15 assists.

He has played in two games with the Avalanche this year.

In the other deal that came before the NHL trade deadline, the Avs acquired Cogliano in exchange for a 2024 fifth round draft pick.

Cogliano, 34, has four goals and 11 assists for the Sharks this season, his 15th in the NHL. Originally a first round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2005, Cogliano has played with Edmonton, Anaheim, Dallas and San Jose.

He has appeared in 1,122 career games, including 830 in a row over an 11-year span.

Last week, the Avalanche traded for center Nico Sturm and defenseman Josh Manson.

Comments from Avs Executive VP/General Manager Joe Sakic after the trade deadline passed on Monday, March 21.
