The game featured the top two teams in the NHL.
And the Carolina Hurricanes were a little better.
Carolina edged the Colorado Avalanche, 2-0, on Thursday night in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Hurricanes were finally able to break the ice on Ethan Bear's goal at 14:20 of the third period. They added an empty net goal with 1:32 to go.
The Avalanche were not at all pleased at the officiating, believing that a penalty against them and a no-call against Carolina were big factors in the final period. Captain Gabriel Landeskog made his feelings known to the officials and received a 10-minute game misconduct penalty with under a minute to go.
Colorado could not get a puck past Carolina goalie Antti Raanta, who made 36 saves.
The Avalanche leads the NHL with 87 points. The Hurricanes have an Eastern Conference best 85 points.
The Avs host the Calgary Flames on Sunday, March 13 at 6 p.m. MST.
Postgame comments from (in order) Avs forward Gabriel Landeskog and head coach Jared Bednar.
