The Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers went right down to the wire in game five of their Western Conference playoff series.
Actually, they went beyond that.
In a classic game, the Nuggets prevailed, 147-140 in double overtime to take a 3-2 lead in the series.
The Nuggets got the win despite a record-breaking performance from Portland guard Damian Lillard, who poured in 55 points and hit an NBA playoff record 12 three-pointers.
His triple with 3.7 seconds left in regulation forced overtime.
Lillard hit another three-pointer with 6.6 seconds left in the first overtime to tie the game again and send it to a second extra session.
But the Nuggets overcame all of Lillard's heroics.
Center Nikola Jokic just missed a triple-double, finishing with 38 points, nine rebounds and 11 assists. Guard Monte Morris added a career-high 28 points and five steals.
The Nuggets jumped up 10-0 to begin the game and built the lead to 54-32 with 7:52 left in the second quarter.
But Portland responded, cutting the lead to 65-62 at halftime, thanks to a 21-6 run in the final 4:37 of the first half.
Lillard's step-back three-pointer with 3:27 left in the third period but Portland up 86-84 and the stage was set for the incredible finish.
The Nuggets are now one win from advancing in the series.
Game six will be Thursday night in Portland with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. mountain time.
