The news could not be much worse for Colorado reliever Scott Oberg.

After missing the 2020 season with blood clots in his right arm, Oberg has reportedly again developed blood clots and has again had surgery, according to multiple media reports.

Thomas Harding of MLB.com was the first to report the news.

It is the fourth time in his career that he has dealt with the issue. Oberg had thoracic outlet surgery in September in order to address the condition. The issue first came up in 2016 and then again in 2019.

Oberg has made four appearances in Spring Training, throwing four scoreless innings and giving up two hits while striking out four batters.

The most recent surgery was reportedly performed Thursday night at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Oberg has spent his entire five-year Major League career with the Rockies and figured to return to the back-end of the Rockies bullpen this year, most likely as the set-up man to closer Daniel Bard.

Oberg last appeared in a Major League game on August 16, 2019 against the Miami Marlins.

Now, his career is very much in jeopardy.

In his comeback attempt this spring, Oberg's first outing was March 12 against the San Francisco Giants. He threw one inning and allowed one hit and struck out one.

He spoke with reporters after that outing.
