The deal will get done.

All-Pro and Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons will agree on the long-term deal he wanted with the Denver Broncos.

KOA NewsRadio NFL Insider Benjamin Allbright reports that Simmons and the team have agreed to a four-year, $61 million contract with $35 million in guarantees. The new contract will keep the former Boston College star in Denver through the 2024 season.

After being unable to work out a long-term deal with Simmons last offseason, he played the 2020 campaign under the franchise tag.

The Broncos recently tagged Simmons again but new general manager George Paton expressed a desire to keep Simmons with the team long-term.

In his first couple months on the job, Paton has shown a commitment to keeping players the Broncos develop in Denver, as evidenced by the Broncos re-signing both Simmons and defensive lineman Shelby Harris and picking up the 2021 option on linebacker Von Miller.

As recently as yesterday (March 18), Paton said he believed the two sides would get a deal done.

“I think we’re making progress. I’m not sure when it’s going to happen and that’s been a priority since I’ve gotten here.”

The Broncos drafted Simmons in the third round in 2016 out of Boston College. He has shown to be both impactful and durable. He piled up 96 tackles and had five interceptions in 2020 and has played over 2,000 consecutive snaps.

Simmons will join Allbright and Ryan Edwards on Broncos Country Tonight on Friday on KOA NewsRadio 850 AM and 94.1 FM and the iHeart Radio app. The show is 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. MDT.

Allbright spoke with KOA NewsRadio’s Mike Rice about Simmons’ new deal.
