Colorado Rockies right-hander German Marquez can check off the goal of being an Opening Day starter.
Rockies manager Bud Black said Marquez will start the season opener Friday at the Rangers.
"I've been working for that," Marquez said. "It's going to be one of many. I'm so happy. It means a lot to me. It's a goal I set since the first time I got to the Big Leagues. It's pretty amazing."
Black said Jon Gray will start Saturday followed by Kyle Freeland on Sunday.
Antonio Senzatela figures to be the club's fourth starter and Black would not say if Chi Chi Gonzalez or Jeff Hoffman has earned the fifth starter spot. Due to a couple of days off early this year, the Rockies may not need a fifth starter for the first couple weeks of the season.
