The Colorado Buffaloes have a new head football coach.

Former CU and Denver Broncos assistant coach and former UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell will take over the Buffs program.

KOA NFL Insider Benjamin Allbright confirmed the move. Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports first reported that Dorrell had emerged as the favorite.

Dorrell was assistant head coach and wide receivers coach of the Miami Dolphins this past season. He was the Buffs wide receivers coach in 1992-1993 and then CU's offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach from 1995-1998.

Dorrell also spent time with the Denver Broncos as their wide receivers coach from 2002-2004. His time with the Broncos came after five seasons as the head coach at UCLA (2003-2007) during which he teams went 35-27.

His numerous coaching stops also include stints with the New York Jets, Houston Texans, Vanderbilt Commodores, Washington Huskies, Arizona St. Sun Devils, Northern Arizona Lumberjacks and Central Florida Knights.

He takes over in Boulder for Mel Tucker, who became the new head coach at Michigan St.
