German Marquez has pitched better.

But he was still good enough to help the Colorado Rockies defeat the Washington Nationals, 9-5, on Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field.

The Rockies take the series by winning two of three. They have won eight of their last 10 games overall.

Marquez pitched seven innings and allowed three runs on eight hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

The offense supported Marquez to the tune of nine runs and 12 hits.

Raimel Tapia and Nolan Arenado each went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. David Dahl had three hits and an RBI.

First baseman Daniel Murphy came off the injured list and went 1-for-4. Shortstop Trevor Story had a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to 13 consecutive games.

The Rockies get a day off on Thursday and start a weekend series in Atlanta on Friday. KOA NewsRadio coverage will start at 4:40 p.m. MDT.
