It didn't take long for the Colorado Avalanche to get down to business.
And they kept working for 60 minutes.
Nathan MacKinnon scored two power play goals in the first period and Colorado was off to the races in a 6-2 win over the Calgary Flames in game three of their first round Stanley Cup playoff series.
Rookie Cale Makar, playing in his first NHL game after joining the team from UMass, scored his first-ever NHL goal, taking a drop pass from MacKinnon and going five-hole on Flames goalie Mike Smith at the 16:02 mark of the first.
Matt Nieto and Mikko Rantanen scored in the second period. Erik Johnson capped the scoring for the Avs in the third.
Colorado peppered Smith, unloading 56 shots on goal which tied the Avs postseason record.
Meantime, Avs goalie Philipp Grubauer saved 27 of the 29 shots he faced.
The Avalanche will host game four Wednesday night at 8 p.m. MDT.
