It turns out Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado really likes purple pinstripes.
Multiple media reports say the Rockies and Arenado are finalizing an eight-year contract extension worth $260 million. That would keep Arenado with the club through the 2026 season.
The average of $32.5 million per season would be a Major League record.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reported there is an opt-out clause after three years that would enable Arenado to become a free agent, if he so chooses.
The Rockies selected Arenado out of El Toro High School in southern California in the second round of the 2009 draft.
In six Major League seasons, Arenado has won six Gold Glove awards and a pair of Platinum Glove awards. He has been an N.L. All-Star in each of the last four seasons.
Arenado has a .291 career batting average with 186 home runs and 616 RBIs.
