Broncos Release QB Chad Kelly

One day after being arrested for 1st Degree Criminal Trespass, quarterback Chad Kelly is no longer with the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos released Kelly on Wednesday morning.

KOA Broncos Insider Mike Klis of 9News first reported the move.

Kelly was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with 1st Degree Criminal Trespass in Englewood, Colorado.

The incident occurred after Broncos players held a team Halloween party at the Gothic Theater on Monday night.

Kelly again appeared in Arapahoe County court Wednesday morning. His next court date is November 8.

He was the team's 7th-round draft pick out of the University of Mississippi in 2017 and the final pick of the NFL draft that year.

He was also arrested in December of 2014 in Buffalo, New York for trying to fight nightclub bouncers.

Earlier in 2014 Kelly was dismissed from the Clemson University football team for detrimental conduct.

Klis spoke with Colorado's Morning News on Wednesday morning.

Broncos President of Football Operations/GM John Elway spoke with Orange & Blue 760 on Tuesday, after Kelly's arrest early Tuesday morning. He talked about Kelly's situation and the players' Halloween party on Monday night.

BRONCOS WAIVE QB CHAD KELLY

 

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos have waived quarterback Chad Kelly, President of Football Operations/General Manager John Elway announced on Wednesday.

“This was a decision that we made as an organization,” Elway said. “After reviewing all the information and in talking with Vance (Joseph) and Joe (Ellis), we agreed that releasing Chad was the right thing to do.

“Even though Chad’s no longer part of our team, we’ve offered to help him however we can and are supportive of him in every possible way.”
