After Olabisi Johnson's yard touchdown catch tied the game 7-7 with 5:26 left in the first quarter, the Rainbow Warriors went to work.
Hawaii scored 30 unanswered points and led 37-7 with 3:35 to go in the third quarter.
The Rams fought back and got within 40-34 with 4:42 remaining in the game. But Hawaii got a field goal to seal it with under a minute to go.
WYOMING 29, NEW MEXICO STATE 7
It was all about defense for the Cowboys in Saturday's season-opening win at New Mexico St.
The Cowboys clamped down and allowed the Aggies only 135 yards of total offense all day.
Leading 15-0 at halftime, the Cowboys got a 56 yard touchdown run from Nico Evans with 7:13 to go in the third quarter.
They were up 29-0 when the Aggies finally got on the scoreboard with 1:16 to go in the game.
