CU Falls To Iowa, 87-77, In The Sweet 16

One quarter was the difference.

The Colorado Buffaloes had a tough third quarter and it ended up being what the Iowa Hawkeyes needed to claim an 87-77 win over CU Friday night in the NCAA Women's Tournament Sweet 16 at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington.

The Buffs led 40-39 at halftime but in the opening seconds of the third quarter, senior point guard Jaylyn Sherrod picked up her third foul. The Hawkeyes trailed 42-41 with 9:10 left in the third but then went on a 13-0 run to lead 54-42 at the 5:04 mark. The Buffs finally ended their four minute, 19 second scoring drought on Sherrod's lay-up with 4:51 to go in the third.

But the damage was done.

Sherrod's bucket with 1:42 left in the game brought the Buffs to within 78-74 but they would get no closer.

Frida Formann led CU with 21 points and hit 4-of-9 shots from three-point range. Miller had 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Buffs advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2003 and they finish the season with a 25-9 record.
