Thurs Blogcast; Pam Anderson for Sec of State; Abortion legal until birth?

Just One Thing

A few days ago, President Biden told a story that was originally reported in the Indianapolis Star of a 10-year-old Ohio girl who was raped and had to go to Indiana for an abortion. Previously Ohio’s attorney general speculated that the story was a fabrication because nobody had contacted law enforcement as would be required in such a case. Yesterday an arrest was made of a Guatemalan illegal alien who has apparently confessed to raping the little girl at least twice. Obviously almost every aspect of this story is horrible. The only good news, and it’s not good enough, is that there’s been an arrest. But from the act itself to the terrible harm to the girl to the politicization of the story, I know most, hopefully all, of us wish none of this would ever have happened.

Uvalde Update (with today's videos)

The story out of Uvalde just keeps getting worse as far as the utter failure of law enforcement. Not that it could go much lower. The Austin American-Statesman acquired and released to the public an 82-minute video that includes a bit of the school's external video camera footage, showing the outside the school, including firing shots outside the school, then entering the school, and then a brutal hour and two minutes of Keystone cops running away from initial contact and then doing nothing until the Border Patrol took charge and took out the shooter. In the long video, the "run away! run away!" part is just before the 9-minute mark.

There has been pushback against the newspaper for making the video public including by the major of Uvalde: Uvalde mayor calls Austin Statesman reporters 'chicken' for publishing video of delayed officer response at Robb Elementary (chron.com) Indeed, it is a terrible thing to watch even though you don't see any blood or bodies. But you hear the shots, and you know they represent kids dying. And you see the police letting more kids die through their pathetic inaction.

Immediately below, I include: The full video, a 3-minute long edited version, a clip from The View with those fools upset with the newspaper for releasing the video, and a PBS interview with the reporter who got and released the video.

You decide for yourself whether you think it was reasonable for the newspaper to release the video. For what it's worth, I think it was.

Today's Guests

Pam Anderson is, fortunately, the Republican nominee for Secretary of State of Colorado. Of the other two candidates, one was unqualified and the other was disqualified. We're going to talk with Pam about a few things including the many failures of incumbent Democrat Jena Griswold and finally putting to bed the question of Pam's association with the Mark Zuckerberg-funded Center for Technology and Civic Life (CTCL) which many Republicans see as having been an intentionally partisan (pro-Democrat) effort. Zuckerberg said he won't make private grants to support election operations anymore but that doesn't mean he won't be involved somehow...and I understand why Republicans don't trust him. Mark Zuckerberg Ends Election Grants - The New York Times (nytimes.com). That said, I think this CTCL thing is a very tiny issue and I wish my GOP/MAGA listeners would move on to what matters: beating Jena Griswold. Pam is an exceptionally experienced candidate, perhaps the most qualified non-incumbent SoS candidate in the nation. And she'll do a tremendous job when she wins. We all need to help her and stop focusing on silly distractions.

Ben Bayer is a fellow of, and director of content for, the Ayn Rand Institute. We are going to have a very controversial conversation because Ben is going to argue, as he does in a recent set of essays, that abortion should be legal without any restrictions, including up to just before the mother gives birth. Joseph Wang goes by the moniker "Fed Guy". He's a former trader at the Fed and therefore knows more about its operations than anyone who's likely to be willing to talk on a radio show, especially anyone who's willing to talk critically of the Fed. We'll talk about what Joseph believes the Federal Open Market Commiittee members are thinking right now and what he thinks the most likely path for interest rates is. Also, we'll get nerdy such as talking about how raising interest rates is not the same as reducing the money supply, and what the Fed is doing to accomplish the latter.

One more video today

Trying to "keep it light" if you'll pardon the obvious bad pun.

This teacher, whom one article describes as "proudly plus-size" posted this amusing video with quotes from her students...nice to laugh a little and nice to see other folks laugh a little at their own expense.
