WHEN GOD MAY NOT BE THE IMMEDIATE ANSWER I got an email from a listener with a great question:
With everything that has happened the last couple of weeks I had a family member tell me the following then I was speaking to them regarding grief. I did in fact try to comfort her with scripture and my thoughts and feelings on losing someone.
My family member said "Normalize comforting people without hiding behind God. Stop weaponizing people’s grief as your excuse to preach. Nobody wants to hear your recycled ‘God has a plan’ nonsense when they’re broken. That’s not comforting to some.. that’s lazy, selfish, and tone deaf. If you can’t show up for someone without dragging your religion into it, then you’re not helping.. you’re just making their pain about you. Sometimes people need empathy, not evangelism. If your faith is all you’ve got to offer, maybe let someone else step in who actually knows how to comfort. Stop forcing your belief into people’s grief."
I am still not sure how to feel about her comments. I didn't argue with her and maybe I was wrong not to defend my point of view but I was just taken back by the comments.

CAN WE CALL KIMMEL A DEMOCRATIC ACTIVIST? At what point does one become an "activist"? I thought about this when I read the story here about his return to the airways tonight. I mean, if you're HOSTING events to raise money for politicians does that count? Because both Kimmel and Colbert have done that. As a talk show host I don't donate to political campaigns or host events. I HAVE been listed as a host on a couple of private fundraisers because I didn't communicate well enough with the hosts who invited me, but I try to stay away from anything that is blatantly political for a couple of reasons I'll share today. So why don't we refer to Kimmel as "Democratic activist"? I mean this genuinely. He reliably carries the water for the Democrats, he only attacks Republicans on his show, why is he not considered an activist? He clearly is and Trump is clearly the worst dictator ever because he's back on the air tonight. The best part about Kimmel coming back is a bunch of people defending him aren't aware of how unfunny he is and tonight they will find out.
GUESS WHO WAS RIGHT ABOUT KIMMEL? It's a girl with a microphone and two thumbs, that's who. Now we see that Disney was looking to scrape off Kimmel at the end of this contract anyway. The media business is entirely predictable.
SENGENBERGER ON FREE SPEECH AND THE FCC This is a good column that reminds us we used to be about free speech and it's correct. I'd be okay with FCC Chair Brendan Carr getting the boot for his ham handed handling of the Kimmel situation.
WHAT HAPPENED TO COLORADO'S FILM COMMISSIONER? This is a mystery and this time I'm not being sarcastic. WHEN TRYING TO KEEP CRIMINALS IN JAIL, DEMOCRATS THROW UP ROADBLOCKS We've had some very, very high profile cases lately of murders being committed by dangerous people who should have never been paroled in the first place. We seem to be reversing that trend by putting those who violate parole back in prison. But thanks to a 2018 soft on crime bill we are going to be letting OTHER people out of prison because so many are going back. This editorial explains things.
WHEN GOVERNMENT IS THE JUDGE, JURY AND EXECUTIONER This is a great column about something I have never thought about once. What happens if you run afoul of one of Colorado's onerous rules about something? Cory Gaines tells us that if you must go before one of the many boards with regulatory power expect the case to be decided by someone hired by the agency who says you violated a rule. And some departments are far more egregious than others, starting with the hyper partisan Jena Griswold. Her office contracts with a progressive Boulder attorney and literally says only HE can be their arbiter. Read it here but remember this kind of stuff when elections happen, k?

I AGREE WITH JASON CROW And I'd love for other members of the House to remember THEY are supposed to declare war and just do it already when it comes to drug cartels. Rep. Crow is concerned that we keep blowing up go fast drug boats now that we've blown up three. I'd love to him to vote for an official declaration of war against the drug cartels, wouldn't you? Unfortunately there is a huge problem with bringing Congress up to speed. They leak everything. From the article:
The resolutions state Congress has not received enough information about the boats’ passengers, cargo, affiliation or intended destinations. They have also not received information about whether the vessels posed threats to the U.S. or “any justification for the use of lethal force.”
The resolutions do not seek to prevent the president from preventing an armed attack. But they note that drug trafficking is not considered an armed attack.
“Congress alone holds the power to declare war. And while we share with the executive branch the imperative of preventing and deterring drugs from reaching our shores, blowing up boats without any legal justification risks dragging the United States into another war,” Schiff said in a news release.
Can Congress keep a secret or will they give up intel to drug cartels to make Trump look bad? I hate to think it's the second, but we've seen how deep the hatred for Trump is and how incapable Congress is of keeping a secret so I think it's a fair question.

DID CHINA TRY TO DISRUPT THE UN? This story about the Secret Service uncovering what they say was a well funded and concerted effort to disrupt the telecommunications abilities of law enforcement in New York just ahead of the UN General Assembly is crazy. ABC News says China is a suspect. They discovered it while investigating threats into three people close to the President, so I'm sure some on the left will pray for the perpetrators.

DOES DENVER NEED AN EYE? Of course I'm talking about the giant slow moving ferris wheel that is already seen in places like Vegas and London. One local non-profit says downtown Denver is the perfect place for one and I have to say I agree with them. You'd have way more to look at than in Vegas. Just saying. Do I think it will actually bring people to Denver? No. But I think it would be another thing for them to do when they are here.

ABOUT TYLENOL AND AUTISM I can't lie and say I'm up to speed on the latest research on Tylenol and autism. That being said, isn't it weird that whenever ANYONE tries to tie ANYTHING to autism there is an immediate and outsize reaction shouting it down. As long as we don't have a definitive reason for the huge rise in autism diagnoses shouldn't everything be on the table? Shouldn't pregnant women be given ALL the information so they can make good choices during their pregnancies? Do want to see the list of things women are told not to eat during pregnancy for FEAR that they could have a bad effect?

Undercooked meat or eggs (runny yolks, rare steak, burger not well done)
Deli meats & hot dogs (unless reheated until steaming hot)

MOST of these have NOT definitively been shown to have negative impacts (except alcohol), but we are telling pregnant women that the turkey sandwich they are craving is a no-no. When I was told not to eat sushi I asked what women in Japan eat while pregnant. No answer. This is no different in my mind.
