IT'S AN ASK ME ANYTHING SORT OF DAY And if you ask a super dumb but funny question you will be my favorite today.
THE LEFT FINALLY CARES ABOUT FREE SPEECH But only after Jimmy Kimmel got fired, not when Charlie Kirk got killed. The reaction on the Left over the last two days has been the EXACT reaction that should have been on display when Charlie Kirk got murdered. They are apoplectic about what they perceive to be an attack on free speech. Eh. We know from this Wall Street Journal article that it was advertisers and affiliates that led the drive to shut down Kimmel's show, but don't let that stop everyone from using this as another reason to call Donald Trump a Nazi. It's paywalled, but this part is the important part:
Kimmel, during his Monday show, had criticized how President Trump and some other Republicans were responding to the fatal shooting. Carr suggested during a podcast appearance two days later that the FCC could take action against the broadcast licenses of ABC-owned stations.
Advertisers and affiliates soon called the network expressing concern about Kimmel’s show. Executives at Sinclair and Nexstar, owners of more than 60 local ABC stations, told network leaders after Carr’s remarks that they would “indefinitely preempt” the show starting that night, moves that would hobble the program’s reach.
Let me explain again how much power advertisers have in media. They pay the bills. They are unhappy, you are in trouble. ABC saw this, has likely been losing a fortune on Kimmel's show already, and decided to cut bait. But why not let Kimmel go on and apologize? Well after talking to Kimmel, they decided that would actually make things worse. Why?
A person close to the show said that Kimmel was planning to say that his words were being purposefully twisted by some members of the Make America Great Again movement.
So his apology was actually going to just blame the people he constantly smears for taking his words wrong and "twisting" them. I'm glad they fired him. But that's not all. There was actually a "protest" at the theater where Kimmel used to film. Even CNN implies he refused to take the temperature down. Read this from Variety:
The shock of seeing Jimmy Kimmel abruptly yanked off the air this week after coming under fire from FCC chairman Brendan Carr, key ABC affiliate station owners and President Donald Trump was the final straw for many fans of Kimmel and late-night TV.
Got that? It wasn't the MURDER of a man for engaging with those he disagreed with, it was the FIRING of an unfunny comedian whose show has been fading for years. Cry me a river. Kimmel makes about 16 million a year and has about 1.57 million total viewers, with only 289k being in the coveted 25-54 demo. That pales in comparison in terms of reach to Travis and Buck, who have 9.75 million listeners each week. ABC decided he wasn't worth it. It happens. It could happen to me. I work hard to make sure it won't, but it could. But the media is already showing they have learned nothing. Here the Hollywood Reporter tells us that Kimmel's comment wasn't THAT bad, just messy and poorly delivered. You guys, these monologues aren't like my monologues. They are WRITTEN AHEAD of time and put on a teleprompter. These comments went through multiple hands before Kimmel said them. But no one on the show had an issue with them at all and THAT is the problem.
ROSEANNE BARR HAS SOME THOUGHTS ON KIMMEL'S FIRING And this is fantastic to watch. After she herself was fired after firing off a horrible tweet with serious racist overtones (she says it was an Ambien induced tweet but it was still nasty) lots of people on the left celebrated, including on Mr. Jimmy Kimmel. Thousands showed up, the Denver Gazette writes about it here. In related news, Erica Kirk has been unanimously named the new head of Turning Point USA, something Charlie told his team he wanted to happen in case something happened to him, which seems sadly prescient once again.
ONE UPSIDE FROM THE EVIL THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED Is that people are turning to church. Lots and Lots of people are turning to church, especially young people. People are realizing the nihilism and post modernism that they have been told is cool is vapid and empty and they are looking for more. If you are a regular church goer please be kind as new people show up, even if they sit in "your" seat. Going to church can feel intimidating and scary, especially if you've been told church people are awful for a long time. Charlie Kirk has made being a Christian cool again and I'm loving that others are giving it a try. Let's show them how to do it right by leading with love. It's hard sometimes (see my unsympathetic post above) but we have to keep trying.

MAYBE DENVER 7 SHOULD DO A LITTLE MORE RESEARCH Because they decided to do a puff piece about the counter protest at CSU without mentioning that the man who was trying to be like Charlie Kirk by allowing people to speak to him has said, and I quote, "you need Conservatives to be afraid of being killed when they go to events". Here it is from his own mouth, but I'd encourage you to watch this entire video to be reminded of the vile nature of Democratic leadership in creating men like this idiot "Destiny".

WHY WOULD THIS KID CHOOSE SUICIDE BY COP Suicide by cop is a real thing. People who want to end their lives bait police into an interaction knowing that it will likely get them killed. This horrible story out of Aurora has all the hallmarks but what makes this different is this kid was 17 years old. What in the world would make him choose this? This is horrible.
IT'S A FEATURE, NOT A BUG OF THE NEW CARRY CONCEALED RULES Guess what? When you jack up the training requirements to get a concealed carry permit there is a good chance there won't be enough instructors to meet demand. That's exactly what's happening in Colorado right now, and I'm sure Dems are thrilled with this new roadblock for legal firearm owners. You know who doesn't have to worry about this? Criminals.
COLORADO'S EPI PEN CAPS ARE BEING CHALLENGED And I think the drug companies have a good case, and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals thinks they case is strong enough to continue. Drug maker Teva is suing Colorado over the artificial price caps on their epipens, saying it's a violation of the 5th Amendment. From CPR:
However, just before the law hit the books, Tel Aviv-based Teva Pharmaceuticals, a company that sells generic 2-pack epinephrine injectors for about $300 a pop, sued the state, arguing the affordability program is a violation of the Fifth Amendment taking clause — a rule that requires the government to pay “just compensation” if it takes private property for public consumption.
Colorado countered, saying the law is about economic regulation and isn’t the same thing as the government seizing property.
That fall, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, another EpiPen manufacturer, also sued Colorado in federal court, asking a judge to block the law on the same grounds.
Colorado is going to lose.
WHEN POLITICS CLOUDS YOUR TRAVEL JUDGEMENT This story legit made me lol. A Canadian couple decided to nix their trip down the Oregon coast after Trump won because they are gay and out of fear of gun violence. Okay. Your choice, I get it, even if I think it's stupid. You know what made me laugh? You know where they went instead? Mexico. Where the murder rate is FIVE TIMES higher than here. You go girls.
COULD A DIP IN HOME PRICES BE COMING FOR COLORADO? I don't think so quite yet, although a market correction is definitely a possibility. The Federal Reserve distorted home values by leaving interest rates so low, and now that they are back up to historical norms (or even a bit BELOW that right now) there may be a need for prices to come down a bit. It's already happening in Sunbelt states people flocked to during Covid. Florida and California have been hit super hard, along with Texas, as increasing homeowner's insurance rates have made those markets even more expensive. We need to keep an eye on this!
