8/19/25 Blog: A Bit On Christian Homeschooling, Plus Michelle Tafoya!

CHRISTIAN HOMESCHOOLING WAS THE OG OF HOMESCHOOLING And I'm not sure Kashia Davis with the Christian Homeschooling Educators of Colorado wants to be called an Original Gangster (OG) but it's true. She joins me today to talk about Christian homeschooling in Colorado at 1pm. Find out more about their organization here.

MICHELE TAFOYA JOINS ME AT 2:30 And what a fantastic career she's had! She is a fixture on NFL sidelines but if you follow her on Twitter you know she can have some very strong opinions about political stuff. She describes herself as “conservative person but I have some definite libertarian strains. I think it surprises people when I say I am a pro-choice conservative but that is the best way to describe myself.” She will be part of the Steamboat Institute's Freedom Conference THIS WEEKEND so buy your tickets here. She joins me at 2:30 for a chat. Find out more about Michele by clicking here.

TRUMP IS GETTING RAVE REVIEWS FOR THE SUMMIT YESTERDAY And none more rave-y than from *checks notes* the NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Listen to this:

That sound you hear is the heads of a bunch of Democrats exploding. We'll see if this deal gets done, but the narrative that the world hates us and we are not respected certainly takes a hit here. Now a meeting is being planned to get Zelensky and Putin in the same room to hammer out details. The will to fight to the end in Ukraine has completely collapsed according to Gallup polling that looks like this, and can you blame them?

We'll see if this actually happens and the ONE thing I'm concerned about is security guarantees. What does that mean practically for the US? I'd like to see Ukraine provide its OWN security guarantees with its own military myself.

THE MIGHTY CHERRY CREEK SCHOOL DISTRICT IS FAILING ITS STUDENTS And Jimmy Sengenberger writes here about the once Golden Child of school districts, Cherry Creek, has traded excellence for equity and it shows. From his column:

But here’s what “equity” produces in practice: Fewer than half of Cherry Creek’s elementary and middle schoolers can read or do math at grade level. Denver’s students fare even worse — barely 40% of students are proficient in English, with hardly 30% meeting math benchmarks.
For Black and Hispanic students — supposedly the primary beneficiaries of “equity” programs — the numbers are catastrophic: Just 25-30% meet English standards in either district. For math, that’s 22% in Cherry Creek and 16% in DPS.
As for high school students, Cherry Creek Schools manage to get three-quarters college-ready in English but just 46% in math. DPS hits a tragic 51% and 31%, respectively. Among Black and Hispanic students, the misfortune is stark: Only 59% meeting English benchmarks and 26% in math at Cherry Creek Schools; DPS stands at 39% and 19%.

Those numbers are not worth celebrating.

THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PEDIATRICS IS COMMITTING MALPRACTICE By continuing to recommend the Covid vaccine for BABIES and children, who are literally not at all at risk of dying of Covid. This association gets a pantload of money from pharmaceutical companies and is solidly left wing, advocating for gender affirming surgery for children and gun control. They should be ashamed of themselves on this one.

COLORADO IS SUING THE TRUMP ADMIN. AGAIN. This time over Trump withholding federal funds for victim services because of sanctuary state laws. Colorado says they can't do that because immigration wasn't mentioned in the creation of the law, but isn't this what Polis is doing to counties who don't want to use his zoning rules? And not for nothing, why are federal dollars being used for victim services at the state level anyway? This is another thing that is none of the business of the federal government.

IF EVERYTHING IS HATE SPEECH THAN NOTHING IS HATE SPEECH The Anti Defamation League is really digging. The ADL, which has long been a left leaning defender of Jews and Israel, has now added "America First" to it's list of hate speech terms. Really?

Guys, I'm all for pushing back against ugly things, but this feels like looking for anti Semitism where there is none. Which is ironic, because anti-Semitism is FLOURISHING right now on college campuses, but those campuses are lead by people of a similar political persuasion so maybe they are just looking the other way?

THE REAL REASON MORE SCIENTISTS DON'T QUESTION CLIMATE CHANGE This is such an inside baseball story but it clearly delineates what I already know, which is that climate science is a cult and a closed loop that is actually the anti thesis of science. The editor of a scholarly journal was recently fired. His crime? Publishing a peer reviewed paper entitled: Carbon dioxide and a warming climate are not problems. It's an interesting paper that we will discuss (hopefully) with the authors soon, but the story here is that a well respected man is out of a job because he merely allowed the QUESTION to be asked. This is why scientists tow the line, because they are protecting their livelihoods.

COLORADO'S IDIOTIC LANDLORD RESTRICTIONS HAVE CREATED A NUISANCE COMMUNITY If you don't own a rental property you may not even know how many idiotic regulations on landlords exist now in Colorado (and even worse in Denver). They prevent landlords from being able to kick out nuisance tenants and even require them to pay for the relocation of people who stop paying their rent, as well as fund an eviction defense. This results in situations like the one at Aspen Ridge Apartments in Arvada, where police have been called 200 times THIS YEAR alone. Landlords say that the new rules are encouraging squatters, who steal power and break things. Well done, Colorado Democrats! You've now made life miserable for all the law abiding rent paying residents there.

COLORADO SHOULD DITCH CORPORATE WELFARE Which would bring it in line with our Constitution, which bans it entirely. Ari Armstrong has a handy list of stuff the Legislature can cut before raising taxes.

RETREATS FOR ME, BUT NOT FOR THEE The same day the City of Denver began layoffs, this story was on CBS4. It's a doozy.

My favorite part was when asked why they chose such an expensive venue and Amanda Sandoval said they couldn't find another place with oxygen enhanced rooms and yoga spaces, but she liked their accomodations for disabled people. Do we have someone on the council who uses a wheelchair? I'm not even being snarky, why is that even a consideration? She didn't actually say THAT, but she said that. And who signs a NO CANCEL contract??? Who does that? I'd like to know WHEN they tried to get a refund. Even in times of crisis, yoga rooms and oxygen enhanced rooms are necessary for something something. You go, Denver City Council.

FOX 31 IS BUYING 9 NEWS Okay, that is a BIT of a (massive) misstatement because the parent company of Fox 31 is buying the parent company of 9 News. I don't know what the ownership rules for tv stations in one market are, but I don't think this means what some on the internet seem to think it means: 9 News is not going anywhere. They are a very successful station and probably make some pretty decent money. I'll see what I can find out about this deal soon.

WHO SHOULD PAY FOR BACKCOUNTRY RESCUE? Right now we all pay for it through a surcharge on fishing and hunting licenses. But is there a better way? It seems to me that a majority of the time we hear about someone being rescued, it's someone who has gone hiking with nothing but a pair of flip flops and a granola bar. Should they be responsible for the cost? Now there is a move to up the surcharge on those licenses quite a bit, but I think there is a better way. Search and Rescue Insurance vending machines at trailheads. Not only does it alert people that what they are doing is potentially dangerous, it lets them buy a cheap policy to cover the costs. Problem solved.

DEMOCRATS WANT TO RAISE YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE FEES TO PAY FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CARE And to help offset some of the highest premiums in the state in the mountain towns. But it would also pay for Omni Salud, the program that covers illegal immigrants in the state so I'm not wrong. Read it here. This would be an absolute gift to Republicans.

COUNCIL MEMBER STACY GILMORE ACCUSES JOHNSTON OF RETALIATION She says because she often challenges the Mayor from the Council meetings, her husband was among the 171 city employees let go. He's been with the city for thirteen years. It would be super funny if he sued for age discrimination, wouldn't it?

IF YOU EVER WANTED A HOME IN FLORIDA Now is the time! Homes are sitting for a really long time, but before you jump, make sure you know how much homeowners insurance is. According to Grok, a 3000 square foot home costs about 12 grand per year to insure. Take that into consideration.

ROSIE THE TARANTULA IS SEMI RETIRED You'll still be able to see the tarantula at the Butterfly Pavilion but she won't be walking across anyone's hands anymore. She will be left alone in a more natural exhibit. I hope this doesn't hurt her self esteem.
