5/21/25 Blog: The Big Beautiful Bill Is Hot Garbage, And No Forced Apology

WEATHER WEDNESDAY AT 12:30 As we catch up with Fox 31 Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser about the weather so get your questions ready. I've got a few tornado questions ready already.

THE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL IS NOTHING OF THE SORT Rep. Thomas Massie is taking a lot of crap, including from the President, for daring to tell the truth about the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill" being shoved through Congress. He's been shouting about debt for twelve years and recently pointed this out:

This bill resets baseline spending that INCLUDES the alleged "one time" Covid spending that exploded the budget under Trump and Biden. It INCLUDES almost all of Biden era green energy priorities. It's going to provide a tax deduction for those living in high tax states so they can write off more and continue to vote for giant state government spending while the rest of us subsidize that. There is a real chance that the DOGE cuts will be completely cut. It continues to grow the deficit at unsustainable rates. It pushes it towards a debt crisis that can shove the world into the kind of depression we've never seen in the modern era. But I'm sure it will be fine if Trump is in charge. I'm lying. It won't be fine, and anyone who says Thomas Massie isn't the biggest patriot in the House is either lying or just plain uninformed. If you voted for Trump and cheered DOGE and are now cheering this bill you are woefully uninformed as well. Read a breezy overview here. And lest you think this doesn't mean anything to you RIGHT NOW, losing our last perfect bond rating means that mortgage rates are NOT coming down anytime soon, as they are tied to 10 year Treasury bond rates. This means the housing market stays stagnant which means all the spending that normally goes along with buying a new home doesn't happen and the economy limps along. At some point, the bill is going to come due, and it's not going to be pretty. Not at all. I used to get really upset about this stuff, and now I realize that we will follow the standard arc of history and squander everything we've built here just like every other democracy has done once they realize they can vote themselves the Treasury. C'est la vie. David Strom at HotAir.com writes a good defense of Thomas Massie here. David joins me at 1 to talk about it.

A MAINE RULING COULD PUT COLORADO ON NOTICE A lawmaker in Maine made a social media post about a boy winning a track meet competing as a girl. Rep. Laurel Libby merely pointed out that a biological boy won a girl's race, and that upset the liberals in the Maine House SO MUCH they DEMANDED she apologize to the athlete. She refused. They then stripped her of any legislative authority, meaning she couldn't vote on behalf of her constituents or do anything else for them. She sued, and after a Rhode Island court upheld the stupid punishment, she took it to the US Supreme court who just ruled that she be reinstated and can't be made to apologize. That sure seems like they cracked back on forced speech a bit, didn't it? I wonder if this foretells what will be the inevitable challenge to Colorado's new attempts to force speech on behalf of trans people? She posted about the ruling here.

MAYOR JOHNSTON'S TRIP TO DC COST 250K IN LEGAL FEES Do you think it was worth that? I don't. Read more here because this might not be the final tally.

BIDEN'S LAST PSA WAS IN 2014 And I find this idiotic to be honest. He's old, he was President, and he previously had cancer. This spin is especially absurd:

I've reached out to Travis Bockenstedt at Pinnacle Advanced Primary care where they charge wholesale rates for tests like this to find out exactly how much this test costs. It costs $5.50 cash. Surely the President of the United States can afford the test? I am forced to concede that MAYBE he didn't know about the cancer before this week, but I also still think there were way too many lies from the Biden team for me to believe that with certainty. He made the bed, now he can lie in it. Oh, and even though he has cancer he is not immune to criticism that his administration perpetuated the greatest fraud on the American people since the end of FDR's life when Eleanor was running things. Even doctors say it's highly unlikely he didn't have this cancer for a very long time.

THE CONSERVATIVE CASE FOR DUE PROCESS FOR IMMIGRANTS Ari Armstrong writes a great column here on the current brouhaha over due process for illegal immigrants. He makes a great case that conservatives SHOULD champion due process and embrace immigration, though he concedes it needs to be in an orderly fashion for conservatives to support it. You should read it here.

IT'S TIME TO EMBRACE TREATMENT AND WORK FIRST Sean Duffy has a great column here on the battle between Housing First and Treatment First programs to deal with homelessness. The problem for the Housing First advocates is that Treatment First is lapping them when it comes to actually solving homelessness and the underlying issues that lead to it.

WE SPENT 100 GRAND ON THIS? The 16th Street Mall is no more. Now it's just 16th Street. That change cost Denver taxpayers $100,000. They could have just listened to my show and gotten this idea for free. Just saying. I hope the rebrand helps revitalize downtown.

REP BRITTANY PETTERSON SHOULD ARGUE FOR MEDICAID BLOCK GRANTS She is passionately arguing for Medicaid funds to continue to cover in patient drug rehab programs. She's not wrong that they save lives, but arguing that the federal government should direct funds AT ALL is the mistake. If she would support block grants for Medicaid, Colorado can set its own priorities, including drug treatment. You can read more here, but she's coming at this from the wrong place in my opinion. This editorial argues that Medicaid in its current form should just be scrapped altogether and suggests we move to block grants as well. It's not wrong.

WHILE WE'RE AT IT, LET'S END THE WHO Because we learned how useless and power mad they were during Covid. This column argues they have lost their mission (they have) and can't be reformed because of Big Pharma and government capture so we should just ditch it altogether. They are right.

WHY WORK REQUIREMENTS FOR WELFARE ARE GOOD It's not just about saving money, it's about reminding those able bodied childless adults that they can bring value to society instead of just taking from it. Read more here.

REP. SHANNON BIRD JUMPS IN THE DEM SCRUM FOR THE 8TH And her entrance into the already sizable field is good news for incumbent Gabe Evans, who likely won't face a serious opponent. A busy primary for Dems will deplete resources (although this race is in play so expect a ton of money from outside the state from both sides) and perhaps provide rhetorical cannon fodder for the general election. You can read more here.

A GUY IS SUING OVER A FOUL BALL TO THE FACE And here's the really fun part: he says it's because the Rockies are so bad that luxury suite attendees don't really go to watch baseball anyway. The dude was the guest of a suite at the game when he got hit in the face by a foul ball and now he's suing for damages. First off, this is stupid. If you're at a sporting event and get hit by a ball because YOU weren't paying attention, that's on you. It's not like you were hanging out with friends and a baseball game HAPPENED to break out. But the twist that's he's blaming the Rockies for putting on such a poor product that no one is watching is creative.

YOU'RE PROBABLY WEIGHING YOURSELF WRONG After reading this I most assuredly weigh myself correctly, even though sometimes I am sure my scale must be broken.

THE SNEAKY GANGS OF FOOD ADDITIVES MAKING US FAT This is very interesting to me. We've been focused on things like petroleum based dyes in food, which need to go, but this French study focused on GROUPS of additives together and it seems to show that certain groups create certain reactions in our bodies that aren't good and may be making us sick. The takeaway is eat real food. Period. Less than five ingredients and if you can't buy an ingredient in the grocery store, don't eat it. Period.

JAKE TAPPER SAYS CONSERVATIVE MEDIA WAS RIGHT And he did it on the Megyn Kelly show. Watch the whole interview here but this is the important part.

Is this enough? We'll see if the rest of the media picks up this narrative.

IS ISRAEL GETTING READY TO STRIKE IRAN? I asked Colonel Michael Scott this last week, and now it seems intelligence reports say Israel is getting ready to strike Iran. This is the only way to destroy the head of the snake that funds so much terrorism against Israel. I'm wondering if this is being shared publicly as a means to get Iran to negotiate with Trump? What other purpose does a story like this serve for the US? I don't have a good answer for that as of yet. This is the telling part:

But “the chance of an Israeli strike on an Iranian nuclear facility has gone up significantly in recent months,” said another person familiar with US intelligence on the issue. “And the prospect of a Trump-negotiated US-Iran deal that doesn’t remove all of Iran’s uranium makes the chance of a strike more likely.”

I hate to think that Israel is being used to push negotiations forward but here we are. Unless they are in on it.

I WOULD NOT FLY INTO OR OUT OF NEWARK ANYTIME SOON I have the utmost confidence in air travel. I'm about to commit to sixteen hours of air time to get to Korea as proof. That being said Newark International is a hot mess and downright dangerous in my view, as they can't even keep the power on in the air traffic control tower right now. Just fly into LGA or JFK instead, k?

THE SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER IS THE REAL HATE GROUP And I've known this for years but when someone writes about it I'm going to share because everyone should know what a trash organization they are. I love this part:

Here’s the truth: the SPLC has quietly morphed into a branding agency. One that trades in enemies. The more hate groups they list, the more donations roll in. And so, like a modern-day Inquisition with a PayPal account, they cast the net wide and sloppy — lumping Catholic school networks with skinhead militias, mainstream conservative nonprofits with literal neo-Nazis. A group doesn’t have to advocate violence to earn the SPLC’s scarlet letter. All it has to do is disagree.

"modern-day Inquisition with a PayPal account" made me laugh out loud because it's spot on.

SCHOOL CHOICE IS ON A ROLL And John Stossel talks about it here.
