WHAT A FIRST 100 DAYS IT'S BEEN You know when politicians give you grandiose plans about the things they will accomplish in their first 100 days in office and you listen and nod because you know a vast majority of them will never get done? President Trump actually did some stuff. He did a LOT of stuff. Here is a column reflecting on the things he's done in his first 100 days. We shall discuss. The next hundred days will all depend on Congress doing its job. Good Luck, Trump. They haven't done much yet. This is a great column on the difference between Trump 1.0 and Trump 2.0 and there is a LOT.
WHO IS MIKE O'DONNELL? He's a dude I follow on X whose bio says this:
I've spent much of my working life in education and economic development. An economist by training and entrepreneurial system developer by practice, I closely monitor and report statistics related to key economic and entrepreneurial trends.
His X feed is full of fun stuff like this:
and this:
Here's a column he wrote about Colorado's pathetic job growth. He's on the show at 1pm today to talk about nerdy economic stuff.
COMEDIAN DUSTY SLAY IS A CERTAIN KIND OF DUDE And he reminds me of a whole bunch of people I went to high school with. Watch him below and he joins me at 2:30 today to talk about his upcoming show, which you can buy tickets to here.
TRUMP SIGNS AN ORDER THAT WILL AFFECT US But don't expect Mayor Mike Johnston to be concerned about it. President Trump signed an order demanding a list of sanctuary cities, which Denver will 100% be on. Why? I'm guessing so they can aggressively claw back federal dollars from these cities until they get out of the way when it comes to immigration enforcement. He just pulled $32 million in funding for illegal immigrants shelters in Colorado. FEMA is going to decide if we have to REFUND the federal government any of that money. I'm sure this is going to go well. We are definitely on a collision course with this admin.
COLORADO MOVES TO CEMENT IT'S SANCTUARY STATUS Talk about poking the bear. Colorado Democrats are hellbent on #RESISTING and they are about to create a world of hurt by passing another stupid bill to cement our sanctuary state status. We shall review it today.
AURORA PD WANTS TO TRACK STOLEN VEHICLES And they have a new program that uses tracking devices given out by the department to track your car if it is stolen. To be clear, the department CAN'T track your car unless it is stolen and you must give permission for them to do so. If I lived in a high crime area I would totally do this myself with an Airtag. I think the biggest deterrent here is the stickers you place on your window notifying thieves that your car can be tracked.
WE HAVE GOTTEN A LITTLE TOO NASTY ON THIS NEWS STORY There is a trans woman hairstylist who is missing. The family of this person is desperate to try and find them, and news organizations have done stories about it, only to have the comments lit up by nasty comments about this being a man. They are "jokes" but they are too soon, as this story could have a tragic end so why not wait? I saw someone post this story in a Republican based Facebook page just to make fun of it. That's horrible. This is a human being whose family is frantic. Please be a better person. One can be against men in women's sports and still be a decent human.
THE SOCIAL MEDIA BILL IS DEAD As the attempts to override the Governor's veto failed. This is a tiny victory in a session full of disastrous losses if you believe in freedom.
WHEN YOU EXPLODE THE SIZE OF GOVERNMENT THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS Denver City Finance officials are sounding the alarm on next year's budget already, but they have missed the mark so incredibly on why I can't take them seriously. First off, these folks came into the meeting with actual numbers of what Aurora is expecting, and Chicago, but couldn't tell anyone about Denver. What? Read this from the Denver Gazette:
Unexpected expenses attributed to Mayor Mike Johnston’s efforts to house the homeless, along with a $90 million bill to pay for the city's response to the illegal immigration crisis spilling over into America's interior cities from the southern border.
City finance experts blame four economic shocks for the decrease: tariffs, supply chain disruptions, financial market conditions and unprecedented uncertainty due to changing federal policies.
Finance experts said strong economic headwinds also contribute to consumer nervousness, citing budget shortfalls in Chicago, Los Angeles, Colorado Springs, Loveland and Aurora, but could not provide estimated budget shortfalls for Denver.
“We do not have a forecast at this point,” Sykes explained. “We are continuing to look at the numbers; we are watching the news, which seems to change day by day. We will be coming back to agencies with a specific target, but at this point, I think the genuine answer is we are monitoring and will continue to monitor, but there's no specific number that I can give you right now today.”
Tariffs haven't even begun to be felt here yet, unless the city is buying a bunch of stuff from Temu (more on that lower). Not a word on the policies that are putting small business OUT of business in the city. Get ready to get asked for another tax increase, Denverites, because the City needs $70 million to build a new soccer stadium. Perhaps it's time to look at the spending priorities? Just a thought.
TEMU SHOPPERS HAVE TO PAY MUCH MORE FOR CHINESE CRAP As the stay on tariffs for items under $800 has been lifted. Now Shein and Temu, two companies known for selling low quality items for extremely low cost, have passed the cost off to consumers and prices have skyrocketed over 100%. I'm not sad about this. Maybe the Chinese slave labor who makes this stuff will get a day off now.
DIA IS GETTING A BAGEL DELI! In Concourse A, which will add four new Denver based food and drink options. Read them here but I will totally stop at Concourse A on the way to Concourse C to get a Bagel Deli bagel and schmear.
USING A SIN TAX TO PAY FOR WATER IS A BAD IDEA But never let it be said that politicians aren't going to make as many bad decisions as possible. The Legislature is going after sports betting to pay for water plans. I'm sure nothing will go wrong.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE SOLDIERS CAUGHT UP IN THAT HUGE BUST? The nightclub bust in Colorado Springs didn't just sweep up illegal immigrants, it also caught service members from Fort Carson, some of whom were working as armed security. What happens to them? This is a good story about what these soldiers now face.
DOUGCO RESIDENTS, TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT! And I hope you can join me for this informational forum.
DID TRUMP LOSE CANADA FOR CONSERVATIVES? Last night the Liberals in Canada pulled off what looked last year to be an impossible victory over the Conservatives. How did they do it? You may have to blame Trump for this one. It wasn't JUST Trump, but his talk of making Canada the 51st state riled Canadians and made it difficult for Pierre Poilievre to separate himself from Trump and those comments. Read more here. It seems Canadians, who have been dealing with a stagnant economy for ten years under the Liberals, hated Trump enough to sign up for more of the same.
ULTRAPROCESSED FOODS LEAD TO EARLY DEATH? This seems a bit...extreme to me. But in the new move to demonize food that isn't really food we have a new study which purports to show that the consumption of ultra processed foods leads to an earlier death. I mean, it's not CRAZY to think that eating food full of petroleum based dyes and other non-food stuff doesn't fuel our bodies the way we should, but this seems to draw a causation when it's merely a correlation. Read it here.
BUT CHAMPAGNE PROTECTS YOUR HEART Of course it does! And not just champs, white wine has the same protective effect according to this study on heart attacks. To bad it prevents me from sleeping.
SABOTAGE MAY HAVE TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS IN PORTUGAL AND SPAIN As the nations were plunged into darkness yesterday for most of the day and no one seems to know why. Though the power has been restored to almost everywhere, authorities now say they are looking at possible sabotage as the reason for the outage. It's now emerged that mystery outages hit the UK system hours before the Spanish power collapse and people are already looking at the Russians as the source of a potential cyber attack.
AMAZON WILL MAKE TARIFF CHARGES TRANSPARENT And I think this is to protect themselves from cries of price gouging from their customers. You can read it here, but to say the White House is unhappy about this is an understatement. Too bad, I think transparency is good, and this will certainly help American made goods stand out until this all gets settled.
DOGE HAS COST ELON MUSK $113 BILLION And that is from his personal fortune. Sort of blows holes in the line of chatter from the Left that Trump is helping his friends get rich at the expense of average Americans. Read more about the fall of Tesla, which is where most of this loss comes from and why Musk is stepping back from his DOGE work to fix it.
GOOD STUFF OUR PARENTS TAUGHT US What's crazy about this article is how many of these things used to be true common sense back in the day. Now, I guess they are special?

“I’m telling you right now, and I know this after talking to three different personnel people in the NFL this weekend, they didn’t even have him on their board. They took him off, and they took him off because the owner said, ‘Take him off, I don’t want that guy. I don’t want this . . . entitled person on our team,’ and I don’t blame them.”
I said it after the first day of the draft, he seems like A LOT. Seems other NFL owners thought the same thing.
