THE COLORADO GOP IS ABOUT TO COMMIT SUICIDE FOR THE PARTY Word on the street is that Herr Dave Williams, called here Baghdad Bob by Dick Wadhams in a column, has the votes to opt out of the primary system in Colorado. He's kicked out anyone who dares to disagree with him (did you know Lauren Boebert is now a RINO?) on the Central Committee and just threw out a bunch of Weld voters who would have voted no on the stupid plan. This means we could face a situation where FOUR members of Congress, where President Trump barely has a majority, could NOT be chosen at the state assembly. They weren't last time, you remember Williams and his collection of morons endorsed a bunch of other losers, including Williams, who got his butt kicked. This means we could lose control of the House when Williams nominates himself, Ron Hanks, Janek Joshi and someone other than Lauren Boebert to run. I'm gonna get Dick on the show to discuss asap.
CAN WE TALK ABOUT TRANS TROOPS FOR A MINUTE? One of the things I am happy about in the Trump administration is his ban on medical gender affirming care for kids, although it is now being held up in court. I think what we're doing to these children, most of how will grow up and out of their gender dysphoria if just allowed to mature, is going to be seen very harshly when history is written. That being said, I am NOT happy about the way the Trump administration is going after trans adults in the military. Once someone reaches maturity, I strongly believe they can make their own decisions and live with the consequences of their choices. And some of those people have been serving honorably in the military with zero issues. This story is one of those. I am also not happy with the way conservatives are reducing trans adults to less than human status by using the word "trans" as a verb, as in "they are trying to trans everyone". Some trans people have serious mental disorders, but so do some non-trans people, and if someone is serving in the military without any issue I don't understand why they can't continue. Why are the people who claim to love freedom so invested in marginalizing ALL adults who are transgender? We don't marginalize every other adult who has extreme plastic surgery. We can deal with things like men in women's spaces and sports without hating on an entire group of people. It's just not nice and I don't like it.
COLORADO DEMS MAKE BEING A CRIMINAL MORE COMFORTABLE...AGAIN You'd think they'd tire of making crime pay in Colorado, but alas, no. Now we are going to be paying the full freight for phone calls from prison for felons. Why? I'm not sure but here is an editorial about it.
TRUMP POLITICIZES THE DOJ And this not okay and George Brauchler writes about the dismissal of charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams because he has agreed to do the bidding of the Trump administration when it comes to immigration enforcement in the Big Apple. George is 100% right it's not okay. It's not okay at all. Read this part:
Yet, it is not a reason to dismiss an otherwise righteous prosecution of a corrupt politician. The situation is worse than you think. The argument defending the order is that the dismissal is to be traded for Adams’ cooperation in Trump’s deportation efforts. The dismissal sought is one “without prejudice,” meaning it could be brought again. The subtle threat is that if Adams refuses to dance to Trump’s tune on immigration/deportation, he faces a renewed effort to convict and incarcerate him. Say it out loud to appreciate how ridiculous it is: a corrupt politician will be allowed to avoid accountability for his criminal conduct, only as long as he does the president’s bidding.
If, as Trump’s team believes, the case was always unjust and political in nature —dismiss it “with prejudice,” so it can never be raised again. The current effort looks a lot like political extortion. If you doubt that, answer this question: Why would the case ever need to be brought again?
This is not how any of this is supposed to work.
THE OSCARS MAY BE INTERESTING THIS YEAR I've not watched all the movies but I've watched some this year, all very, very good. I watched Conclave recently and it is outstanding, but so was Emilia Perez. There is not clear favorite this year as evidenced by the awards that have already happened. What's clear is that NO ONE is seeing these movies, which is a shame because they are really good. I'm going to try to slog through The Brutalist on an upcoming flight. What's also clear is that the movies that people ARE seeing, at least on the first weekend, are not very good. Just look at the crater by Captain America: Brave New World the second weekend. That doesn't scream great movie.

HEY LOOK, TAXING THE RICH DIDN'T WORK When it came to funding "free" school lunches for all students. Voters decided they wanted every kid, even those from affluent families who can more than afford lunch, to have "free" lunch at school. Voters were told that a new tax on The Rich would cover the costs and of course, it isn't enough. So now the legislature is asking for more money. From Chalkbeat.org:
The solution proposed in House Bill 1274, introduced this week, would ask voters in November’s election two questions. First, voters would be asked to approve letting the state keep the more than $26 million that the program has collected over what it expected — instead of having to issue that money back in refunds to those taxpayers who make more than $300,000.
Because of Colorado’s TABOR amendment, the state is not allowed to keep revenue that exceeds what they tell voters will be collected without explicitly asking for permission. Without that permission, the state has to return money it already collected. Second, voters would be asked to lower the deductions that taxpayers earning more than $300,000 or more can get to $1,000, so that the state can collect more money. The bill estimates this would generate an additional $95 million each year for the school meals program.
Tax the rich some more? Sure. Voters love that until all the rich people move to Texas.
I'M IN FAVOR OF EXPANDING COUNTY COMMISSIONS And this hurts me to say, but Douglas County's current board has me fully on board with this proposal to force large counties to add members to their commission. I do not trust George Teal and Abe Laydon to put the county's interests above their own. It appears that they have gotten an ally elected in Kevin Van Winkle so they can shove a complete boondoggle of a water plan that NO ONE WANTS down the throats of Douglas County residents. II am waiting to see if Van Winkle is an independent thinker or now. If it takes making government bigger to prevent this, I'm in.
THIS IS WHAT XCEL WANTED ALL ALONG If you got sucked into the Time of Use billing scheme by Xcel and you work a 9 to 5 job, hang onto your wallet. Xcel just agreed to change Peak Rate Times from 3pm to 7pm back to 5pm to 9pm. When do you do your laundry? Run your dishwasher? Use the most electronic devices in your home? I've long thought this is where we'd end up and here we are. You can still opt into flat fee pricing, which seems more expensive until you need power when you're actually home. I'm interested in if any of you are in the peak pricing scheme so we can do an experiment?
