NO, DAVE WILLIAMS DID NOTHING TO HELP REPUBLICANS I feel like this can't be said enough and now it's being said by the Chair of the Adams County Republican party in this column. Daniel Belfontaine writes about the myriad of ways Williams as chair of the State GOP not only didn't help, but sowed division and actively worked against candidates who went on to win. Remember this when it's time to choose the next leadership of the state party. Please.
WELL WHEN YOU PUT IT LIKE THAT We all feel that Denver and Colorado are heading in the wrong direction but this editorial from the Denver Gazette lays out a WHOLE BUNCH of ways that prove it's not just us feeling that way and Lordy, it's a lot. This is what one party rule gets you, especially when the one party believes more regulation and bigger government are the answer when they clearly are not.
DEMOCRATS ARE REGULATING OUR ECONOMY TO DEATH This story about a report from the Chamber of Commerce isn't the least bit surprising. Colorado's regulatory burden on businesses far surpasses a vast majority of other states, putting us with the sixth most regulated economy in the country. This jibes with the report yesterday that we've lost our high spot in the nation economically and also jibes with one party rule when the one party is Democrats. To them, business owners are evil doers looking to destroy and steal so why not regulate them to death? From the Denver Gazette:
The study said several Colorado industries are more heavily regulated than the U.S. median, and some have seen more growth in regulations compared to others within the state.
Notably, the pipeline transportation, personal services, chemical manufacturing, utilities, and petroleum and coal products manufacturing industries in Colorado are seven times "more regulated" than the median state in those sectors.
For example, the U.S. median number of regulations in the non-metallic, mineral manufacturing sector is nearly 400. In Colorado, that number is more than 3,000.
When it comes to "environmental regulation," Colorado ranks among the most regulated states in America, "even surpassing New York in terms of regulatory burden," the report said.
Colorado has yet to reach California-style levels of regulation, but it "is moving in that direction," the study said.
I'm absolutely positive the Democrats will take no responsibility for any of this.
SMALL TOWN POLICE FORCES ARE DROPPING LIKE FLIES And I'm not going to pretend to know if this is a good or bad thing long term, but with county sheriff's departments able and willing to step and in and provide services for a fee will it really matter? There is something good about knowing your local police force but hiring and retention in small departments is darn near impossible especially after factoring in the cost of living in these small mountain towns. Read more about Georgetown, Morrison and Central City disbanding their forces here.
DEMS BREAK LAWS, ETHICS COMMITTEE SHRUGS I've learned something really well recently (to be clear, I already KNEW this but it's been clarified really well lately). If a Republican breaks a rule it's the WORST THING EVER and nothing short of the gulag will suffice. However, when a Democrat breaks a rule, it surely wasn't on purpose, a mere mistake, and we should all forgive them upon their apologies for the mess they created. It just happened for Jena Griswold and now it's happened again for Rick Palacio, the former chair of the Democratic party. He violated state law when he became a contractor right after he left full time employment, which is illegal. His punishment? Nothing. The "Ethics" Committee decided he did violate the law, but then they decided he didn't do it meanly so there will be no punishment. Of course there won't be. Of course. Read about it here.
IT WASN'T TAINTED DRUGS AT A CU FRAT HOUSE It was idiotic young men drinking way too much alcohol and then taking untainted drugs that lead six to the hospital for potential overdoses. Can we talk about booze for a second? Too many college students drink themselves to death and we don't talk about that enough. This report says over 1500 college students a year die from alcohol related issues. Talk to your college students, please.
THE SECRET SERVICE IS DOING TOO MUCH Along with not training their people properly and assigning unqualified agents to do tasks they aren't ready for. That's the short summary of what the House investigation into the attempted assassination of Donald Trump has found. They are recommending the Secret Service scale back the protection of foreign leaders and even questioned the investigatory part of the Secret Service's mission.
WHY DENVER'S LIGHT RAIL DOESN'T WORK And this guy suggests government make it ever harder to park a car as an answer.
OLD NEWS BEATS BIASED NEWS And in a fresh humiliation for ailing network CNN they have been beaten in viewership not only by the Food Network but by the History Channel as well. Read this:
CNN's audience was also smaller than TNT, Food Network, Discovery, Hallmark Mysteries, TLC, TBS, History, HGTV, USA, MSNBC, the Hallmark Channel and ESPN.
The network fared even worse among the 25 to 54-year-old demographic, which advertisers weigh heavily.
It received a measly 67,000 viewers in the category, finishing behind networks like TV Land, MTV and Comedy Central.
Yikes. It's hard to see how they survive this.
GATEWAY PUNDIT STRIKES AGAIN For many years I've told people to take anything they read at The Gateway Pundit with a grain of salt. They are wrong a LOT and they do stories designed to get clicks and create sensations. They did that again to Mesa County Clerk Bobbi Gross. She did a tiny bit of contract work for Dominion Voting Systems for a county in New Mexico as a ballot layout consultant. That's it. And now GP is trying to make her out as some kind of villain. Read the truth here. Don't trust Gateway Pundit.
SECOND PRIZE, GREEK AMBASSADORSHIP the Trump men have something in common with their dad, and that's the inability to stay in a long term relationship without cheating. The latest example is Don Jr. who was engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle. Was. After photos of him canoodling with a Palm Beach socialite came out in November Guilfoyle was allegedly gobsmacked. Now the engagement is over and as a consolation prize, Guilfoyle has been named the Ambassador to Greece. Thanks for playing, Kim, but it's time to go. I just did this story so I could use the word canoodling.

OBAMACARE FAILED MISERABLY To bring down healthcare costs. It also failed to bring down the number of the uninsured, but this article isn't about that. This article is about how much health insurance costs have risen in the past decade plus, especially for families, while insurance companies are denying about 20% of claims on a regular basis. Until we do something to bring down the cost of HEALTHCARE, this will not get fixed. Or take away a bunch of the mandates that most people never use. But Congress won't do either of these things.
