GEN X, WE DID IT And by did IT, I mean we pushed Donald Trump over the finish line by a good margin. More than any generation Gen X voted in the wrecking ball, as we're prone to do. This is not surprising to me at all. We've always pushed back against scolding types who told us we can't do something and we voted accordingly This great column by David Strom calls this the Gen X election and I think that's fair. We've lived long enough to know politicians lie all the time and we decided to go in a different direction with a liar who is at least so obvious in his tall tales as to be somewhat transparent. Odd I know but here we are.
IS IT MORNING IN AMERICA, PART DEAUX? I saw this tweet yesterday and I sort of dig it.
The point here isn't just that Trump won, it's that the veil has been lifted and people are starting to regain their sanity. As evidenced by successful pushback against the toxic stew of DEI, which is happening in government and outside it. We must purge it entirely from college campuses NOW, which can be done by withholding federal money from any university or college with a DEI department or agenda. Even the new chair of the FCC says DEI is out the window at his agency. It feels hopeful again, like we can get this train back onto the tracks. Let's hope that Elon Musk has the patience to go through the slicing and dicing of big government before he loses interest and decides to just go back to making money. I feel like we've got hope again. How about you?
IS DENVER REALLY THE SIXTH MOST SINFUL CITY IN THE COUNTRY? This seems like a stretch but I'll bite. Wallethub rated cities on the Seven Deadly Sins and found us to be the 6th most sinful city in the US. It's no surprise that Las Vegas came in #1 as it's an entire city based on sin, but finding us at 6 was a bit of a surprise. I believe our liberal use of pot, along with car thefts because some of the other categories like health we did really well. Amazing how a couple of "oh craps" take away a bunch of "attaboys" isn't it?
YOU CAN HAVE AN ADU IN YOUR YARD IN DENVER NOW As the City Council voted last night to allow them throughout the City of Denver. This brings the city in line with the new state law that legalizes them throughout the state. If you're not happy about this, thank Governor Polis. If you are happy about this, thank Governor Polis, this is one issue he actually lead on. Personally I think this is a good thing and will allow some people to stay in their homes longer because they can create an income producing product on their own property. I plan on doing this when I retire, just not here.
UPS IS GOING ALL IN ON AUTOMATION And they are laying off workers at a Commerce City facility in January. I hope this doesn't screw up how efficient UPS is. If you are a warehouse worker I would begin to find a new profession as I think you will be obsolete pretty soon.
THE BUDGET IS TOO BIG BUT LEGISLATORS ACT LIKE WE'RE BROKE The reason there is a giant hole in the Colorado budget right now is OVERSPENDING. They have plenty of our money, they just need to prioritize better. Period. COULD CERTAIN VACCINES PREVENT ALZHEIMER'S? This study did not show causation but it did seem to find a link that suggests that having an up to date TDap or TD vaccination could mean lower rates of the disease. Read it here.
PUTIN THREATENS NUKES and if he wants to start WWIII this is surely the way to do it. After Biden said Ukraine could use our long range missiles to get military sites in Russia, Putin declared that using nukes is on the table. This would be the escalation that the rest of the world could not allow. We'll see if he's bluffing but I really think he's sort of crazy so who knows what he will actually do. And who knows if the Russian people are okay with all this.
YOUR FAT CELLS REMEMBER BEING FAT And they want to be fat again, which is why it is so hard to lose weight and keep it off. In theory you get rid of ALL the fat cells with this "memory" in ten years, so perhaps your body will get used to being thin again. This is genuinely one of the most depressing stories I've read in a long, long time, but it underscores how important keeping children from getting fat really is.

DETAILS OF THE HOUSE ETHICS COMMITTEE ARE COMING OUT And it may not matter if the House decides to release the investigation or not, because details are leaking out like a sieve as the attorneys for the women who testified are making known what their testimony was. We know now there are Venmo payments between Matt Gaetz and several women that the women say are for sex, test messages about someone bringing "party favors" and "vitamins" which are code for drugs, and even messages reminding Gaetz of payments he had not made yet to the women for sex. We'll see what happens and if he even makes it to confirmation hearings. Mollie Hemingway is one of Gaetz's staunchest supporters and she explains all this away here. But does she explain Venmo requests away too?
THE EARLIEST "JESUS IS GOD" WRITINGS HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED This is super cool. From the Daily Mail:
The 1,800-year-old mosaic, discovered by an inmate of the Megiddo prison, features the ancient Greek writing: 'The god-loving Akeptous has offered the table to God Jesus Christ as a memorial.'
The 581-square-foot mosaic decorated the world's first prayer hall in 230 AD, confirming Christians believed Jesus was the son of God from the very beginning.
DEMOCRATS ARE TOLD THEY CAN'T CHEAT IN PENNSYLVANIA And this entire situation certainly gives life to the notion that Democrats will cheat to win because they literally have been trying to cheat to save Democratic Senator Bob Casey's job. They wanted to count ballots that didn't have proper postmarks OR signatures in an effort to help Casey win, and now the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has weighed in CLEARLY on the issue. From their decision:
The Court hereby ASSUMES its King’s Bench authority over the instant Application, see 42 Pa.C.S. § 502, only to DIRECT that all Respondents, including the Boards of Elections in Bucks County, Montgomery County, and Philadelphia County, SHALL COMPLY with the prior rulings of this Court in which we have clarified that mail-in and absentee ballots that fail to comply with the requirements of the Pennsylvania Election Code, see 25 P.S. §§ 3146.6(a), 3150.16(a), SHALL NOT BE COUNTED for purposes of the election held on November 5, 2024. ...
The Application is DENIED in all other respects. In particular, we deny the request to exercise plenary jurisdiction over related matters that have been commenced in various courts of common pleas. This order shall be deemed authoritative and controlling in all such matters and as to all county election board members.
All of those bold and capped words were bolded and capped by the justices just to make sure there were no doubt that they CAN NOT COUNT those ballots. Even the AP had to admit the order was pretty clear. Senator Elect Dave McCormick is the winner here no matter how you slice it.

HOW STRESS MESSES WITH YOUR MEMORIES Hooboy this is interesting. In an effort to protect us from dangerous stressful situations our brain lumps negative memories together to reinforce that we should not do that again. It prevents us from creating detailed memories and instead kind of creates a kind of umbrella memory that lumps previous negative experiences together, making everything seem way worse that it is.
