11/13/24 Blog: Near Death Experiences Today, Plus Weather Wednesday

IT'S TIME FOR WEATHER WEDNESDAY! And I've already got some snow questions for Fox 31's Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser when he joins me at 12:30 so get yours ready!

I AM FASCINATED BY NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES Because in my mind they are the closest thing we have to proof of the afterlife. Today, I've got Jeffrey Long on the show. Jeffrey Long is a medical doctor specializing in the practice of radiation oncology, using radiation to treat cancer. As a scientist, Jeff founded NDERF in 1998. He wanted to know if NDEs were real by directly asking the NDErs themselves. The answer is a resounding YES! As a result of his research, he is the author of the New York Times best seller, "Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences." He also wrote "God and the Afterlife: The Groundbreaking New Evidence for God and Near-Death Experience." Find out more about his organization and read the story from NDErs yourself by clicking here. He joins me at 1pm to talk about it.

TRUMP'S CABINET IS SHAPING UP And so far so far mostly good, although I was very surprised that he wants Pete Hegseth as Sec of Defense. We'll see who gets confirmed on this list so far but we'll go through it today.

WHAT IS THE STUPIDEST THING YOU'VE SEEN THAT THE LEFT FEARS TRUMP WILL DO? I have no idea where this garbage is coming from (except this, where I know a left wing magazine is saying black people are going to end up slaves) but it's time to start calling it out for the stupidity it is. I'm trying to be compassionate but I will not continue to subject myself to people freaking out about stuff that will never happen. Gay marriage? It's gonna be fine. Women losing the right to get a credit card? All good. Just stop it. You look stupid and are making yourself look weak and pathetic. I saw this today and burst out laughing because who wants to have sex with these women anyway?

WHY IS DENVER GOVERNMENT TRYING TO BUILD AFFORDABLE HOUSING? And I don't mean that we don't need more affordable housing, but why is government trying to do it? Bring in every homebuilder you can find and ask them what incentives they need to build affordable housing. Ask them how much permitting and dealing with city delays costs them per unit and fix that. Give them tax breaks to get this done. The City has no business being in the home construction business but they have every role in making it much easier while still being profitable for the people who do this professionally to get it done. I only say this because this article about the city budget goes on and on about the sales tax increase so the city could build affordable housing failing. It's not a role they should be trying to fill.

DOUGCO USED TAX DOLLARS TO FIGHT UNIONIZATION And I am conflicted on this. Unionization of the Douglas County Sheriff's office would most certainly cost taxpayers more in the long run so when the Sheriff uses tax dollars to "educate" deputies about the true cost of unionization I can make the argument that it's a good use of dollars in the long run. That being said, the union alleged malfeasance and now those accusations have been substantiated by the labor board. The sheriff is appealing and as a taxpayer I hope he wins. There is no need for public sector unions, period.

THE COLORADO GOP SHOULD LOOK SOUTH At Pueblo, where the former Democrat stronghold not only voted for Trump, but also voted them into local office. From Sean Duffy's column:

After the Republican takeover of Pueblo city government, Donald Trump won Pueblo County, and voters unseated a Democrat county commissioner who had served as House majority leader. County voters backed Republicans for the State Board of Education, and University of Colorado regent. They strongly supported a constitutional amendment on school choice.
Interestingly, Democratic congressional candidate Adam Frisch bested now Rep.-elect Jeff Hurd in the county — reminding Republicans that they must carefully cultivate Pueblo voters and their priorities.

A point of order, the Republican mayor of Pueblo ENDORSED Adam Frisch as well. Read the column here but don't expect the hapless current leadership of the GOP to take note.

WHY IS THE FBI INVESTIGATING RACISTS TEXT MESSAGES? Don't get me wrong, the fact that some scumbag is sending out racist spam text messages is appalling, but why is the FBI investigating this? For real? I'm genuinely curious. Read more here.

PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR PRONGHORNS I absolutely love seeing a herd of pronghorns running across open space so this story makes me very sad. Over 100 pronghorns have been killed recently since the big snow storm, as they can't maneuver well on icy roads and get trapped on them because of the high snow on either side. Please watch out for our own version (though not really) antelope playing.

YOUNGER PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW STROKE SIGNS As more and more younger people are having them. Read this for more.

THE STORY OF THE 10TH MOUNTAIN DIVISION This is a great story from Westword about the 10th Mountain Division and their role in creating Colorado's ski industry.

A HATE CRIME HOAX LEADS TO INDICTMENTS And after reading this story I'm a bit confused about what went on here, except it appears that three people created a race hoax to get leverage over Mayor Yemi Mobolade in the Springs. At least one woman appears to be a minority herself. There is apparently so MUCH racism in our society that we need to make some up these days. Sad.

IT'S TIME FOR US TO GET OUR OWN URANIUM Did you know we get a bunch of our uranium from Russia? Yep, so we're funding BOTH SIDES of the war there. Fantastic. This article talks about the opportunities that are appearing as the US government works to exploit our own uranium resources in THIS country instead, and what that could mean for Colorado.

ALL THOSE TIME SCOTT JENNINGS DROPPED SENSE AT CNN I hope Scott Jennings never leaves CNN. It would rob us of magic like this.

ARE AMERICANS OR THE GOVERNMENT TOO STUPID HERE? You are not going to believe this one. Costco has been ordered to recall about 80,000 pounds of butter by the FDA. Why? Because the labels don't say "Contains Milk". You see, milk is an allergen and apparently people are too stupid to know that butter, which is made by agitating heavy cream (which is also milk) until it separates and that disclaimer is required by the FDA to protect stupid people from themselves. I say throw a little chlorine in the gene pool here, people.

HOW APPS AND WEBSITES TRACK YOU I LOVE Social Smarts with Agnes, it is so good and so informative and even if it's made for kids you should watch it.

NATE SILVER FINDS DEMOCRATS LESS TOLERANT THAN REPUBLICANS You can find these comments buried in a Substack post mortem about the election but it jumped out at me:

Even though our forecast was near 50/50 for almost the whole race, there were certainly periods that were relatively better and worse for Harris and Trump. Our narrative content followed accordingly, with about an even mix of newsletters that presented optimistic cases for Harris and Trump. (That was not true when Joe Biden was running, but that’s because Biden was way behind in the polls.) So I essentially got to perform a randomized control trial on how partisans in both camps reacted to good and bad news.
And there was an asymmetry. Republicans are generally happy when you agree with them partway or half the time. Admittedly, the sorts of Republicans who encounter our work are not a representative sample, probably being on the moderate side — though you can find plenty of Trump supporters in the Silver Bulletin comments section.
Democrats, however — and here, I’m not referring so much to Silver Bulletin subscribers but in the broader universe online — often get angry with you when you only halfway agree with them. And I really think this difference in personality profiles tells you a little something about why Trump won: Trump was happy to take on all comers, whereas with Democrats, disagreement on any hot-button topic (say, COVID school closures or Biden’s age) will have you cast out as a heretic. That’s not a good way to build a majority, and now Democrats no longer have one.

They are what they accuse Republicans of being. Watch this video for a better example of this in practice.

I only bring this up because The Left likes to believe THEY are the party of tolerance and acceptance, but they are only that if you agree lockstep with everything they say, as evidenced above. I'm not suggesting we get less tolerant, I just want to arm you with examples of how and why they don't live by those values so you can push back when needed.

THE UK REALIZES GREEN ENERGY IS A FANTASY As they now have the highest industrial energy prices in the world, knocking them out of the top ten for manufacturing, faces power rationing and is spending 3 BILLION pounds a year importing foreign energy. Read this part from The Telegraph in the UK:

Facts are important. Between 2004 and 2021, before the war in Ukraine the industrial price of energy in Britain tripled in nominal terms (153%) or doubled relative to consumer prices. Electricity prices have doubled since 2019. This has led to a huge slice of Britain’s manufacturing base already choosing to relocate overseas in search of lower costs. Since 2010 over 200,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost; as a share of GDP, manufacturing has halved since the 1990s.
The writing was on the wall years ago following the Blair, Brown, Cameron and May government’s decision to slavishly follow EU diktat and start closing coal and oil-fired power stations without clear policies to build cleaner equivalent ones; weather dependent windmills and solar panels could never fill the gap, especially if they are built faster than they can be connected to the grid. The EU’s various power station directives, first supported by the Blair government forced the UK to start shutting key plants from 2012 before new ones were ready. Coupled with this is the derisory ninety minutes Commons debate to enact the Net Zero 2050 law, arguably the most complex, far reaching and costly piece of legislation in post war history.

And our Governor thinks he can do this and somehow make it work. He can't. No one can.

TWO COLORADO GOLF COURSES ARE IN THE TOP 100 But they are both private so I hope you can find a member to get you in. Read about them here.

THE BIDEN ADMIN MAKES A RULE THE TRUMP ADMIN WILL TRASH And it has to do with methane emissions during oil and gas drilling. You can read it here but I fully expect the EPA under Trump to ditch all of this.

A COLUMN FOR TRUMP HATERS EVERYWHERE: IT'S TIME TO LET IT GO This is a great column by a man who admits he was consumed by his hatred of Trump for years, but has now just decided to lean in. Read it here if you are still struggling with the results.
