10/29/24 Blog: Medicare Info Sessions, and What's Next After Next Tuesday?

MY VOTER GUIDE IS OUT BUT I HAVE SOME NEW INFORMATION Yesterday I talked to a State Senator from Alaska about Ranked Choice Voting. He's coming on the show tomorrow to discuss how it has worked in Alaska so far, and laid out the rather significant issues some voters have figuring out the ballots among other things. To be clear, I am still a YES on Ranked Choice Voting, but I now recognize there is a lot more to this than I initially believed. Just wanted to put that out there. Find my ballot guide here. Voter education is going to be key if Ranked Choice Voting passes.

HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT MEDICARE? It's that time of year when people eligible for Medicare need to pick a new plan and if you've got questions, I've got some events coming up for you. I'm talking with Eileen Doherty, MS Executive Director, Colorado Gerontological Society about their Medicare Monday events, which you can find and sign up for here.

A CHAT ABOUT LIBERTY AND OUR FUTURE AFTER THE ELECTION This is going to be a night of inspiration & discussion as we search for hope and principles after the election with Yaron Brook & Tom Krannawitter! Join a live streamed event with two great thinkers who will talk about liberty and the future of our country after the election. I have Dr. Thomas Krannawitter on to talk about it, find the RSVP here.

JEFFCO WANTS TO KEEP MONEY THEY TOOK THAT IS YOURS That they took knowing it was yours and now they want to keep it. They overcollected property taxes by millions but instead of lowering the mill levy rate they have been keeping it, earning interest on it, and are running a ballot initiative to keep it permanently. CBS 4 did a great story on it here. JeffCo voters need to shove ballot measure 1A so far down their throats with a NO vote they get the message. It is YOUR MONEY and they know it.

IF YOU'RE MAILING YOUR BALLOT Mail it today or tomorrow if you aren't going to drop it off. The Post Office is asking people to mail their ballots in plenty of time for the election, because ballots received after the election won't be counted. They say mail them by TODAY to be sure they get there in time. If you don't, you can early vote, or drop it off at a ballot collection box.

WHY AREN'T REPUBLICANS VOTING YET? This story about ballot returns has me concerned because Republicans have returned the LOWEST number of ballots in the state. Independents are turning in their ballots like crazy, followed by Dems, but only 30% of Republicans have voted yet. Why is this? This is super frustrating and another failure of the Dave Williams lead Republican party. What are you waiting for? I'm asking for real.

SEAN COMBS IS A MONSTER And as stories like this one about him allegedly raping a TEN YEAR OLD BOY are true, there is no way the industry didn't know what a monster he was and let him continue his reign of terror because everyone in Hollywood is a spineless coward too afraid to do anything to someone powerful in the fear it would hurt their career. I don't know how people who knew this was happening sleep at night. A TEN YEAR OLD BOY, and his parents didn't call the cops because they didn't want to hurt "his career". Everyone here is a monster save the victim.

NOW LIBERALS ARE WORRIED X IS THROTTLING THEM I had to laugh so hard at this story with parts like this:

It’s almost impossible to say whether X is explicitly suppressing Democrats, as some liberals have speculated: The Post’s analysis turned up no evidence of direct manipulation. The shift in attention could reflect changing attitudes among users who have stuck around, given that many left-wing users have said they left the platform of their own accord, annoyed by Musk’s antics and X’s redrawn rules.
But the transformation of a platform once obsessed over by politicians, journalists and news junkies has nevertheless fueled agitation among Democrats over lost opportunities for messaging during an election year that has been bitterly fought over online. A Pew Research Center survey in March found that, of the people who post about political issues on X, Republicans were much more likely to say their “views are welcome there.”

I laugh because when conservatives were actively being throttled on what was Twitter we were told if we didn't like it to go create our own social media channel. Now that the shoe is on the other foot we get this. Mmmkay. Maybe your posts just suck.

WILL THEY EVEN HAVE TIME TO GET HIM A NAMEPLATE FOR HIS OFFICE? Hezbollah has named a new Chief and I seriously doubt he's going to be around long if recent history with Israel is any example. I won't bother giving you his name, but he's currently in Tehran after fleeing Lebanon, he's old and now his clock is ticking loudly.

WILL PEOPLE DIE ALONE OVER POLITICS? This story about the growing divide in dating over politics is both sad and concerning. I was talking to a friend about the trouble her good looking, well employed son who loves skiing and outdoors is having finding a woman who will date someone who isn't a screaming liberal. This article says this divide is growing and some of these people are going to end up alone if they don't get their head out of politics and into whether or not someone is a good person and mate.

HAVE WE HIT PEAK PICKLE YET? Look, I love pickles. I currently have a wide variety of pickled items in my fridge. But I think we've gone too far with this from Jimmy Johns:

It's real and it's available for a couple of weeks but unless you are a low carb fanatic why would you do this?

PROOF THE NETWORKS ARE IN THE BAG FOR HARRIS As if we needed proof but here it is. An analysis by the Media Research Center on how the Big 3 networks cover the candidates shows the most lopsided coverage in history. From Newbusters:

Since July, ABC, CBS and NBC have treated Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris to 78 percent positive coverage, while these same networks have pummeled former Republican President Donald Trump with 85 percent negative coverage.

I for one am shocked! Haha, not really. Read the rest here.

THIS AS JEFF BEZOS SAYS THE THING WE ALL KNOW ABOUT THE MEDIA In explaining his decision to not endorse a candidate for President (which we all know would have been Kamala Harris because she's the Democrat and that's who their own editorial board always endorses) he wrote a column which aired in his Washington Post about it. He's 100% right when he says this:

Presidential endorsements do nothing to tip the scales of an election. No undecided voters in Pennsylvania are going to say, “I’m going with Newspaper A’s endorsement.” None. What presidential endorsements actually do is create a perception of bias. A perception of non-independence. Ending them is a principled decision, and it’s the right one. Eugene Meyer, publisher of The Washington Post from 1933 to 1946, thought the same, and he was right. By itself, declining to endorse presidential candidates is not enough to move us very far up the trust scale, but it’s a meaningful step in the right direction. I wish we had made the change earlier than we did, in a moment further from the election and the emotions around it. That was inadequate planning, and not some intentional strategy.

Read the rest here, as his Editorial Board should do. Two members of the board resigned in protest, but kept their cushy jobs at the paper. Brave!

AROD DID SOME MOONLIGHTING LAST NIGHT As Bocephus James, the scary clown at the 13th Floor Haunted House.

CAN ULTRASOUND WAVES CURE ADDICTION? Maybe not CURE it but it seems to be able to curb the cravings for drugs long enough to allow other therapies for the underlying issues surrounding addiction to be treated. They zap a certain part of the brain associated with cravings with concentrated ultra sound waves and it simply knocks the cravings out. Not sure for how long, but it seems to work at least temporarily. Read more here.

VP HARRIS PUT RESTRICTIONS ON A JOE ROGAN INTERVIEW That he wasn't willing to accept, including that he travel to HER and limit the interview to an hour. As Trump's Rogan interview has 36 MILLION views on YouTube I'd say it was a strategic mistake to dangle an interview and then not do it in an election this close when you are having trouble with the men who watch Joe Rogan. Rogan says it still may happen but when? And now she'll just look like she's copying Trump...again.

IRON DEFICIENCY AND COLON CANCER IN YOUNG PEOPLE Doctors are noticing what seems to be a connection between iron deficiency and colon cancer cases in young people. Why? We don't know. Read more here.

AN ELITE SCHOOL IS ELITE NO MORE After embracing DEI measures the famed and often #1 ranked high school in the country has plummeted to #14 in the rankings, leading to the resignation of the principal. Good. Parents are understandably unhappy about this development and are blaming the focus on equity and inclusion for the slide. Of course that's correct. The school says the fall has nothing to do with the new policies to increase diversity and that the rankings are just arbitrary anyway. Parents will have to wait and see what fresh hell awaits them now in the name of DEI. By the way, the principal got a promotion in the district. Of course she did.

"COACH" TIM WALZ ISN'T VERY COACHY Or he probably wouldn't have tweeted this out:

He got so roasted for it he deleted the tweet but the internet is forever. By the way, I do NOT think Walz actually tweets anything, but this goes to show how out of touch the entire staff is.

DO YOU SMELL SMOKE? OH, IT'S JUST BALLOTS BURNING.
