Just One Thing: Wow, what a big mistake

It’s hard to describe just what a huge unforced error it was having comedian Tony Hinchcliffe address the Trump rally in New York. His so-called comedy simply wasn’t funny. Wouldn’t have been funny even in a comedy club, and I say that as someone who likes humor that’s dark and offensive. But to have the guy insult Puerto Rico just about a week from an election with so many Puerto Rican voters around the country. Arguably the single most important state in this election is Pennsylvania. There are probably close to half a million people of Puerto Rican origin there. In 2020, Trump lost the state by less than 80,000 votes. In 2016 he won it by 44,000 votes. Seriously, it’s as if the comedian was pretending to be a Trump supporter but was really there to sabotage him.

Seriously, who knew the "October Surprise" would be one that Team Trump dropped on themselves?

Trump faces backlash from Bad Bunny, Puerto Ricans amid fight for Latino vote

Trump's vulgar rally becomes a drag on his campaign

From ABC News: "This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign," Trump campaign senior adviser Danielle Alvarez wrote in a statement to ABC News.

But that's not enough. Trump himself needs to say something, especially if the uproar isn't gone by today. At least, even if he doesn't push back directly against the "joke" he needs to say good things about Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans. I can imagine that some percentage of non-Puerto Rican Hispanics will also take real offense at that "joke". And remember it's not just that it was told by a guy who apparently supports Trump; it was told at one of the most anticipated Trump rallies of the year.

And JD Vance can say this all he wants, but it's not going to help anything...

Today's Guests

Yaron Brook is proprietor of the Yaron Brook show (on YouTube and podcast) and executive chairman of the Ayn Rand Institute. He is a fearless champion of individual liberty and I just love talking with him.

We will mention a fabulous upcoming event next Thursday, Nov 7 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, with Yaron and Dr Tom Krannawitter, another great repeat show guest and then we'll talk about how a freedom-lover should think about the 2024 election. We may also talk about Israel as well. Yaron's from there originally but has been a US citizen for decades.

November 7th's "Beyond the Ballot Livestream" info is here: Defenders of Capitalism – Capitalism is the only moral socio-economic system.

More info: "Join us for a special Defenders of Capitalism Project™ livestream event with Yaron Brook & Tom Krannawitter and moderated by Mike Williams to discuss the November election and to focus on what's ugly, bad and...yes even good, about American culture. We're going to dive deep into some thought-provoking questions with a focus on the principles of a free society and how we can continue to be change agents after the election. This event promises to be a night to remember as we explore the future with optimism and clarity. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to hear like-minded individuals and expand your perspective."

Steve Yurash is running for the Colorado State House of Representatives, House District 52, as a member of the Center Party. (There is no Republican candidate and the Democrat seems to be a leftist radical in the mode of Elisabeth Epps and Tim Hernandez.)

Steve Yurash for State House District 52 – Colorado Center Party

From Steve's website, noting the geographical boundaries of HD 52: District 52 is the southern part of Fort Collins West of I 25 between Horsetooth and Carpenter Road, and a section south of Mulberry and East of Lemay and another section south of Drake and east of Shields.

Other Stuff

Sharing this with you not because I give a rat’s behind about what Tim Walz did 35 years ago but because of how stupid opposition research can get. There’s no possible chance this ancient history does anything to the election, but there is a chance it harms Walz’s marriage. I realize some will say “then he shouldn’t have done it” but is that really the purpose of newspapers?

Amazing story: In a world that seems ever smaller and where you would be forgiven for thinking there isn't much left to discover, I love being reminded that that's not true: Hidden Maya City With Pyramids Discovered: 'The Government Never Knew About It'

An interesting point in the published article regarding their questioning whether prior research on Mayan civilization overestimates the size of population centers (geographically and in terms of population). Four stories about ballots:

An insane decision by a federal court to side with the insane ultra-woke DOJ employee behind this. Seriously, they're arguing that Virginia (because of proximity to election) cannot remove non-citizens from the voting rolls.

Speaking of voting insanity: Here's how much the Democratic Party is willing to risk (or tolerate or encourage) fraud: Note, this tweet is from a Dem lawyer who is happy about the decision. To be clear, it might be that this is correct under current law but if so the law itself has to be changed. Dems like the current situation because at least in recent history, Dem voters have voted by mail more than Republicans have though I think that gap will be narrower this year.

It seems kinda crazy that these "algorithms" existed, but maybe I'm missing something: Philadelphia hospitals drop race-based algorithms

Of course the groups that are getting billions of dollars will decide they like it. That doesn't make it OK: Fate of the IRA if Trump wins. Note particularly item #3 about “Learning to like the law”: Axios Markets

Newspapers not endorsing in presidential race:

USA Today gives Wash Post some cover: Over 200 Gannett outlets not 'endorsing in presidential or national races'

I think that part of the reason the Washington Post didn't endorse anyone for president is because they know that the old-line media is simply not trusted by anyone outside the urbane left. Kamala giving a speech from an area called the Ellipse, within view of the White House, tonight. On the one hand it might give her a bit of an aura of being “presidential”; on the other hand it will remind people that she’s part of the current unpopular administration. It could also evoke reminders of January 6, 2021 since it’s where Trump spoke just before those terrible few hours. Philadelphia DA, one of the worst in America, sues Elon Musk: Philadelphia DA sues Elon Musk and his super PAC over $1M sweepstakes | CNN Politics

In short, the basis of the lawsuit is not that Musk's giveaway is illegal vote-buying (an argument the federal government is making) but rather that, under PA state law, it's an illegal lottery. Here's the text of the lawsuit: 8bf0a31e-2b5f-4b2b-b98d-5cfdc0029505.pdf

I normally don't put political stuff here but this is so insane...did Dems really think that this was going to win the Gen Z/Millennial male vote? OMG

This was only a little better, but still ridiculous
