TGIF Blogcast: Sinwar is Dead; Deep Sea Life; Unjust Imprisonment

Just One Thing: Sinwar follows Nasrallah and Hitler into hell

I hope you’ll join me in raising a glass to celebrate the death of arguably the most evil person in the world, the former head of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar. This man’s goal was to be this generation’s Hitler. And now he’s dead. Most of Hamas leadership is dead. Sinwar was killed in southern Gaza. That’s the area that Biden and his vice-president tried to prevent Israel from invading months ago. The same vice-president who’s crowing and taking a victory lap today, but don’t you believe her. I don’t think she’s anti-Israel or anti-Semitic. I think she’s a clueless windbag who just says whatever she thinks will win her a vote. The death of Sinwar leaves a wider range of possible endings to the war in Gaza. I warn against optimism, but Sinwar’s death is cause for celebration.

I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS REAL BUT THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE THAT IT IS GIVEN WHO HAS POSTED IT. IT PURPORTS TO BE SINWAR, MISSING A HAND, THROWING A STICK AT A DRONE THAT'S PROVIDING VIDEO COVERAGE OF THE SCENE TO THE IDF:

One More Thing: That's why they play the game

If an NFL team that was a 1-point favorite lost the game, you wouldn’t be too surprised. If a team is a 7-point favorite and loses, you might be surprised but  say “well, that’s why they play the game…you never know what will actually happen.” So I don’t know why many people think of political betting odds so differently. In 2016, it’s true they were wrong in the sense that Hillary, the betting favorite, lost, but it wasn’t really much different than a 7-point NFL favorite losing which happens fairly often. Donald Trump is ahead in betting odds right now by what sounds like a lot in percentage terms. But it’s really something like being a 3 to 4 point favorite in the NFL. You’d rather be the favorite, but it’s not the same as winning.

Dr Monika Bright is a professor at the University of Vienna. She studies, among other things, deep-sea life that exists in the incredible heat of hydrothermal vents. A team of researchers recently made some fascinating discoveries by doing something as conceptually simple but logistically difficult as -- and I'm oversimplifying -- looking under rocks. The hard part: the stuff they looked under is about 8,000 feet under the surface of the sea and is surrounded by temperatures that can be 500 degrees or more.

Miki Sedivy joins me again to remember and honor her daughter Hannah who, at the age of 16, took what she thought was a Xanax pill for anxiety. It was laced with fentanyl and it killed Hannah. One little pill. Too many families have been through this.

Of all of Donald Trump's grifts, from sneakers to bibles to watches, this is the worst. Read the context added at the bottom of the tweet. As Nellie Bowles of The Free Press puts it:

The World Liberty Financial token cannot be used as a currency. You cannot sell it or trade it. All buying a World Liberty Financial token allows is for you to vote in World Liberty Financial matters. Even within the world of scam cryptocurrencies, this is unfathomably scammy....It’s like dealing snake oil to imaginary friends. It’s like debating how many magic beans your fairy dust is worth. It’s fake wrapped in crazy.

Very interesting political ad. Trump can't win NY but maybe this will help some Republican members of the House in blue districts with significant Jewish populations.
