NO JOY FOR DONALD TRUMP LAST NIGHT What a first day we had at the Democratic National Convention. The candidate made a surprise appearance last night and spoke for a few minutes in what I think was a mistake. The them of "joy" did NOT extend to former President Trump, who was under relentless attack in a series of what I thought were angry sounding speeches. Protesters broke down the outer perimeter barricades before being very gently rebuffed by police. I was very impressed with how police handled the entire event. I would not have been that patient which is why I'm not a cop. Check out our coverage here.
THE PRO HAMAS PROTESTERS MADE IT INSIDE And they Democrats had a plan. Everyone held up their We Love Joe signs (on the back it said "But Not Enough to Keep Your as Our Candidate) to cover the Stop Funding Israel banner they brought into the venue.
There are a LOT of delegates wearing these scarves supporting Hamas in the arena, so it's not surprising they made it in. I'm expecting more protesters as the week goes on so buckle up, because they got through the first barricade a little too easily yesterday. And that was only a few hundred protesters. HILLARY HAD A LOCK HIM UP MOMENT LAST NIGHT And the irony was thick as the crowd chanted.
I think AOC did her best speech ever and the crowd LOVED IT. You can watch it here if you want but if you want to see the full flavor of last night it's on full display in her speech. The attacks on Trump were relentless, the Democrats acted as if someone else other than their party has been running the country for the past three years and the crowd ate it up. All in all the Democrats must be pretty proud of themselves for last night. If I thought they were right about anything I'd probably agree with them.
THEY KEEP SAYING THEY ARE FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON But very few average people spoke, unlike the RNC where they were prominently featured. Just saying.
THE DEMOCRAT PLATFORM CALLS FOR ELECTING JOE BIDEN? This seems like a pretty BIG oversight but here we are. The platform was adopted in July before Kamala Harris was magically elevated to the top of the ticket. Read more here. Let's be real, the platform is a meaningless gesture designed to bring disparate forces together by giving them the impression their voices were heard but this is kind of funny to me.

HOW MUCH HAS YOUR MONTHLY ESCROW PAYMENT GONE UP? This editorial from the Rocky Mountain Voice is going to strike a chord with many of you. In it the author says his mortgage payment has gone up $1000 and he now pays MORE in taxes and insurance than he does in principal and interest, which is absurd. How much has your monthly payment gone up? How many people can't afford this and could lose their homes because of it? If your margins are already stretched how do you pay a huge increase for your house? This is terrible and we have Democrats in Colorado to thank for the property tax part, we can't blame them for the insurance part.
WHO KNEW HE WAS A HUNTER? The former deputy mayor and chief of Denver's public safety department Murphy Robinson has been named to the state's wildlife commission. At first I was like WHAT? But then I saw this and felt better:
Robinson, who owns a portfolio of security technology companies and who has been in the public eye for years, is an avid hunter. Robinson will serve as a representative of sportspersons.
He was exposed to hunting in his teens but became a "hardcore" hunter about 14 yeas ago. He had a lot of help — and mentorship, including from a police commander who took him under his wings, he said.
He will be taking the seat held by a sportsman representative so at least he knows what he's doing there.
THE MAN TRYING TO RESHAPE HOW WE VOTE IN COLORADO Kent Thiry is a man with money and a mission. That mission is to fundamentally change the way we vote in Colorado and I believe to neuter the two party system in Colorado and I'm here for it. ONE DEMOCRAT HAS RUN FROM THE CONVENTION and that is Rep. Yadira Caraveo, who is in a race that has just been moved to the "Toss Up" category as it is truly a purple district in the 6th and Gabe Evans is a strong candidate running against her. She doesn't want people to know she's a Democrat, I guess?
A TELLING ANECDOTE ABOUT HOW VOTERS GET THEIR INFO As we hear grandiose speeches that rewrite actual history some of you may be asking how people could believe this stuff. Read this anecdote from listener Joe about it:
I was in my local gym riding an exercise bike next to one of my conservative friends yesterday and we were talking about Kamala Harris's announced war on "Price gagging" (gouging) and I asked him if he knew how small grocery store profit margins actually were.
When he replies No, I told him that based on the SEC forms 10-K filed with the SEC, that the nation's 3 largest grocery store chains (Kroger, Albertsons/Safeway and Wal-Mart all had net profit margins of less than 3%.
Upon hearing that, a woman in her fifties on another bike on the other side of my friend broke in and told me that I was mistaken and that grocery stores were making "Enormous profits" and when I asked her how much, she said "in excess of 20%'.
I then explained to her that my information came from those official 10-K filings and asked where her information came from and she told me that she couldn't recall but that all I had to do was "Google it" and reiterated that my information was wrong.
Scary that a middle aged woman was thoroughly convinced that the policies of the Biden/Harris administration had nothing to do with inflation and that is was purely the fault of "greedy Businessmen" and scarier still was her refusal to even consider any information that contradicted that belief.
I guess what Mark Twain said was true which was: "it is far easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled."
