I almost feel sorry for her (almost) because her attorneys seemed more interested in trying to figure out what defense strategies may save Mike Lindell than actually mounting a cogent defense for her. Sentencing is next on October 3rd. We'll see if the felonies she was found guilty of get her jail time.
NO, ELIZABETH SCHOOL BOARD, YOUR JOB IS NOT TO PROTECT STUDENTS FROM CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES This is where pulling books from library shelves goes wrong. The Elizabeth School Board is moving certain books off the shelves to "protect" children. These aren't graphic novels with pictures of sexual acts, these are books like The Color Purple and 1984 by George Orwell. This quote got me this morning:
“We need to be sure that we are protecting our students from things that are controversial,” said Board Secretary Mary Powell, who took part in a book review committee that started work last school year.
Powell said in a review of the district’s library collection, materials that veered “farther into the egregious category” have already been pulled from the shelves. That includes 19 texts like “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky and “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini.
No, you don't need to protect kids from controversial things. You need to GUIDE them through controversial things. The kids of Elizabeth need to read those books in the classroom when it's age appropriate. There is a list of books that have been pulled from the library for now, and I've only read The Kite Runner (spoiler alert) which portrays the rape of a boy in Afghanistan. This is why creating committees to decide what people can and can't read often goes too far. There has to be balance between keeping pornography off school shelves and challenging students with challenging texts. The problem is pornography is often in the eye of the beholder.
THE FOLKSY TIM WALZ IS COMING FOR A VISIT And I'm wondering which of the news media outlets here will get a sit down interview with him. BWAHAHAHA! I'm kidding because the Harris-Walz campaign doesn't talk to the media because why? The media has provided them with billions in unearned positive media so why sit down with them and rock the boat? He's coming in town for a fundraiser. If I were a real journalist I'd be pissed about this but I think most local journalists will be happy to do a live shot from outside the event for their team they won't be invited to. We'll see if I'm wrong.
NO PRISON FOR THE J6 GRANDMA But a crap ton of fines, probation, house arrest and she's been banned from the internet from a period of time. From the Denver Gazette:
What a magistrate judge did levy for her April 4 conviction on four misdemeanor counts: one year of probation, six months of house arrest with an ankle monitor as soon as she returns to her residence located about 14 miles northeast of Colorado Springs — and a $103,000 fine for funds she’s raised from the public.
She's happy to not be going to prison for her role in the January 6th riot, where she walked with others into the Capitol before leaving ten minutes later. I want you to understand the penalties above were for walking into the Capitol building. And this is America.
THE AURORA HOMELESS NAVIGATION CENTER IS TAKING SHAPE And read this to hear how thoughtful the Aurora Mayor and City Council are being about this plan. They are planning audits to make sure it's accomplishing goals. It's got GOALS. It's got the kind of step up housing I was talking to the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless about yesterday. I am excited to see this in action and I hope it helps many, many people get their lives back on track.
SHOULD I PACK MY RIOT OUTFIT FOR THE DNC OR NOT? The protesters who have nothing better to do than protest have been planning to show up for the DNC to protest the support of Israel against their war against Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, and Iran. So will they all show up now that Biden has been dethroned and Harris installed as the candidate? It seems yes, but you need to realize that March on the RNC said they would have thousands and they literally had tens. Watch this for more about the family friendly, Pro Hamas protest is going to go.

PLASTIC SURGEONS AREN'T PART OF THE GENDER AFFIRMING CONSENSUS ANYMORE The first major medical association has dipped out of gender affirming care for minors in the US and this is BIG. From City Journal:
In July, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a major medical association representing 11,000 members and over 90 percent of the field in the U.S. and Canada, told me that it “has not endorsed any organization’s practice recommendations for the treatment of adolescents with gender dysphoria.” ASPS acknowledged that there is “considerable uncertainty as to the long-term efficacy for the use of chest and genital surgical interventions” and that “the existing evidence base is viewed as low quality/low certainty.”
This is a really big deal, especially because they called the evidence "low quality/low certainty". That is a very specific medical term for studies that have too many holes in them to be considered scientifically sound. Read more here, but this puts tremendous pressure on other medical groups to either defend the science, which is pretty indefensible, or admit their guidance and support of the mutilation of children was wrong. We'll see what happens next.

The study projected cases of mesothelioma to increase the most between 2022 and 2050, and the biggest increase in deaths to come from prostate cancer.
Prostate Cancer is highly beatable IF YOU CATCH IT EARLY. Do not wait to go to the doctor if you suddenly have difficulty urinating, blood in your urine, persistent pain in the back, pelvis, or hips, or erectile dysfunction. Black men, this is the second highest cause of cancer death for you. Stop being squeamish, get your PSA checked at least. Good news though, a new study says men who ejaculate often have a much lower risk of getting prostate cancer. Just throwing out some preventive medicine ideas here, guys.
