COLLEGE LOAN BORROWERS FIND OUT YOU CAN'T BELIEVE GOVERNMENT This survey is crazy but totally believable at the same time. Intelligent.com did a survey of student loan holders found that borrowers believed Joe Biden when he said he was going to forgive their loans. Check out these key findings:
Three-quarters of borrowers were confident they would receive the relief they qualified for under Biden’s plan
Nearly half of borrowers who believed they would receive relief spent money they otherwise would not have
37% used the money to pay off other debt, while others spent it on unnecessary purchases, including vacations, substances, and gambling
58% are unprepared for payments to resume
Part of me is glad they've suffered this disappointment now, so their trust in government is lowered going forward. Maybe it will make them pay attention to whether or not such things are constitutional in the future. Or maybe they will recognize that when they take out a loan they should plan on paying it back.
WE'LL NEVER KNOW WHOSE COKE IT WAS As the Secret Service has CLOSED the investigation into the bag of cocaine found near the situation room in the White House. Of course they did. They say NO fingerprints were found on the baggie, which means someone wore gloves and wiped off the baggie before leaving it in the locker? I guess we're supposed to believe it. DENVER PARENTS WANT THE MAYOR'S OFFICE MORE INVOLVED IN SCHOOL This speaks volumes about the lack of confidence the parents in Denver have in the Denver School Board. At a recent forum put together by incoming Mayor Mike Johnston on education, the following statement was made by a school employee:
"I've been working in education a long time ... the mayor's office has not been present. The city has not been present," said one DPS employee who asked to remain anonymous. "When you ask what can be done, it's pretty much everything because there has been nothing. ... We've missed a lot of opportunities to support our families and our kids because there's been such an absence of the city's presence."
If there were a properly functioning school board focused on student achievement this statement would never have been made. But we are where we are. Read the rest here.
COLORADO DEMS JUST MADE IS WAY MORE EXPENSIVE TO BUILD A HOUSE And this article about El Paso's new building codes give you just a taste of what's in store. One builder says the new insulation and efficiency requirements will add $30,000 to the cost of building, and this all applies to remodeling as well. And if you like being able to just turn lights on and off, good luck as new switches have to be dimmers or those annoying ones that turn the lights off if you don't move in a room every so often. COLORADO'S LAX CAR THEFT LAWS HAVE GOTTEN PEOPLE KILLED This story about a Space Force Sergeant who has just been charged with First Degree murder is a case study in bad choices. A man caught two teens making bad choices and trying to steal his car and made then he made the bad choice to chase them and shoot at the car. One teen is dead and now he's facing charges. Unfortunately word is out that if your car is stolen in Colorado you won't get it back and if you do it will be trashed. Though the law has now been changed, the car stealing habits have already been forged and people feel like they need to take things into their own hands. From the woman who just got shot when she found her stolen cars to this, Colorado lawmakers are to blame here as they laid the fertile ground for such bad decisions to tragically compound.
FORGET FIRING THEM, LET'S CELEBRATE EMPLOYEES WHO CARE Jon Caldara has a great column here about the workers who have been fired for trying to stop criminals from getting away with their crimes. He's right when he says we don't only need to not fire those employees, we need to celebrate their bravery and commitment to their employers. And King Soopers should be ashamed of themselves for firing Santino Burrola.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced limits on highly potent greenhouse gases used in refrigerators and air conditioners on Tuesday, July 11. The gases, known as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), often leak through pipes or appliances that use compressed refrigerants. They are considered a major driver of global warming, thousands of times more powerful than carbon dioxide.
No word on what is going to replace them as of yet.

ANCHOR BREWING IS OUT OF BUSINESS Anchor Brewing was the first craft brew I ever had. I was in San Francisco in about 1991 and was in a bar and all they had was Anchor Steam beers on tap and I had one and loved it. Anchor Brewing has been around 127 years but they were slow to get their product in mass markets and their sales have been declining since 2016 and now they are done. It's the end of an era.

THIS MAY BE PEAK ATHLETE NARCISSIST We've lived through the eras where athletes have referred to themselves in the third person, and now we've got an athlete who wears a chain around his neck with a tiny video screen that plays his highlight reel. This is absurd.
THE FDA IS ASKED TO INVESTIGATE LOGAN PAUL'S ENERGY DRINK Logan Paul is a very, very popular influencer with millions of followers on various platforms. I'm not sure why, but I'm not his target demo. He has an energy drink brand that his followers love and one can has the caffeine of SIX cans of Coke. Chuck Schumer now wants the FDA to investigate the drink because it's being marketed to children with extremely high doses of caffeine that parents may not know about. I actually think Schumer may be on to something here.
I'M SAD THIS IS NEEDED BUT SO GLAD IT'S THERE There is a camp for kids who have suffered through the suicide of a loved one and I'm so glad it's there. Suicide leaves behind questions and pain and guilt and I would imagine for kids it's really hard for them to have anywhere to process that because it's not something that everyone goes through. COSTCO IS DITCHING BUD LIGHT And this is hardly a political statement as Costco is run by liberals, but a statement on how badly Bud Light is selling in the warehouses. Costco doesn't carry products that don't sell. And now the asterisk of death, which means a product is being discontinued, is appearing on the Bud Light price tag which means that Bud Light is exiting the warehouse.
