Jessica Kirson is playing at Comedy Works South at the Landmark Friday night and Saturday night at 7:15 PM and 9:45 PM. At last check, the Saturday early show is sold-out: Jessica Kirson | Live in Denver | Comedy Works

State Rep Lisa Frizell (HD45, Castle Rock) serves on the Colorado State House Business Administration and Labor Committee which killed the terrible House Bill 1118 yesterday. That's the bill that brought out a full-court press from the Restaurant Association and ended up in a 2-8 loss for the bill in committee even though there are 7 Democrats on the Committee. It's a rare bit of good news from this terrible legislature.

We'll discuss the conviction (and maybe the sentencing) of Alec Murdaugh. (See much more in links below)

Other Stuff

Alex Murdaugh convicted: As one person put it on Twitter, "man who murdered his family convicted of murdering his family". When news hit that there was a verdict after only 3 hours of deliberation, it was obvious what it was going to be. Unanimous not-guilty was impossible and hung jury would have required far more time. https://apnews.com/article/alex-murdaugh-murder-trial-7db9faf0ad165899385c52bf990c54cd

One interesting side note: Just before the jury began deliberating, a juror was removed and replaced after the judge ruled that she had impermissibly discussed the case with friends outside the courtroom. One wonders if she might have been a vote to acquit. Now one wonders if she'll ever tell the public what she would have done. The defense seemed more upset than the prosecution about her removal though it's hard to tell if that's more a matter of disliking the process or if they thought she might be leaning towards not guilty rather than guilty: Juror in Alex Murdaugh double murder trial removed for "offering her opinion on evidence" ahead of deliberations - CBS News

Biden's veto decisions:

Biden says he will not veto a bill that will stop Washington, DC from reducing criminal penalties for crimes like carjacking. Given what's going on the world, it strikes one as utterly insane that DC would want to do that, but such is the "progressive" left: Overruling the District of Crazy II (WSJ)

Great take on that decision from Jim Geraghty: https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/joe-biden-the-district-of-columbia-should-make-its-own-decisions-except-for-this-one

But, being a true economoron and hater of savers and investors, Biden will veto a resolution that would overturn a terrible administration rule imposing ESG on investing. Biden’s First Veto Is Revealing (WSJ) He says he’ll block a bipartisan resolution that protects worker savings from political ESG investing.

This bums me out. And as we speculated on the show yesterday, much of the decision was driven by the industry change to make movies available on streaming much faster than in the past: Elvis Cinemas has closed its three Denver theaters for good (denverpost.com)

Ugly for homeowners, and not translating into good news for home buyers because rates are so high, the mortgage market has also collapsed even as home prices are (in some markets) falling: https://www.axios.com/newsletters/axios-markets-482773a7-4cdf-450c-a8c6-867e7fb2a7b0.html?chunk=4&utm_term=emshare#story4
